Perhaps you missed the announcement of the loss of our friend, jakedog42, Carl Dominello. He walked on March, 15th, 2024.
www.dailykos.com/…
Carl was dear to many here. He was a regular attendee at Netroots Nation to meet DK folk in the flesh. He had a special fondness for and connection with sidepocket who we are likely to see in Huntington Beach on May 18th. Those of us in L.A. had a chance to encounter his generous soul a little more often and proximity will allow us the chance to join a proper farewell, too.
I have an email address that I will not publish to protect Carl's daughter's anonymity online. I had hoped to have a list of interested attendees compiled while I was still across the pond. Alas, That didn't happen so I hope this announcement allows enough time for planning.
If you are able to attend please say so in the comment thread. I will send you a DK message with Amber's email for an evite to the party. If you can't attend, wish your DK compatriots well in the thread, too...we'll be carrying your banner and I am sure his daughters will appreciate it.
FWIW, Carl's passing at this time in the life of Daily Kos seems poignantly appropriate. He was here for the glory days of this site when much freedom to err still existed while at the same time achievement of enlightened and enlightening thought was cheered and congratulated. Steve Gilliard and Meteor Blades shone at the outset — Carl and I spoke of those two particularly, always bringing us back to the table where big thoughts were served up for free. Even so, early on, Carl was a generous donor. In the last year, more attention was paid to other outlets like Meidas Touch, nothing from AP there. DK was kind of like a ‘first love’ in the political realm. We laughed about it and our fealty in spite of distasteful alteration of things… So when I say farewell to jakedog42, I will say goodbye to much that once was especially precious.
FWIW, I will likely stay at a hotel down there… I don't drink and drive and I will surely tip one or two.
A bigger Jimmy Buffet fan never lived...He's rockin’ with him now.
