General Hertling’s take on UKR counter offense is is pretty novel to me and he is probably right. He is basically saying that Ukraine does not have an ability to put up a combined arms operation and may not for some time. Since they don’t have a significant air force, do not have enough tanks and armor I am sure he is right. SO no traditional major offensive can really work the way one might envision an offensive as the United States would do it.
Instead he is saying this will involve a lot of smaller and localized offensives. Like not one big push and more like death by a thousand cuts. If Ukraine does this it will drive Russia batshit crazy.
They don’t know where to defend now! How would Russia even know if they were facing a major push or something smaller? How can they know where to reinforce and with what would be needed? Interesting way to look at it. It really would make them go nuts. Hertling is right when he says it will drive them crazy.
And the fact remains — Ukraine is preparing a battlefield in the south for an offensive.
ALSO
I tried to say before that what we are really doing over there is only going to come out way after the fact if at all. So it is pretty interesting that the pentagon is admitting we managed to retrofit MIG-29s to fire American HARMs missiles now. I am sure they have for some time. That basically means Russia can kiss their anti-aircraft defenses goodbye.
So the big question remains — what else did we give them?? I think they really need fighter/attack planes here. Wonder how the training is going with the UKR pilots and crews on American platforms? It will get done eventually if it is not already.
Russia is so fucked. I think they have no idea what they are facing. But they sure know it is going to get worse for them. Like July was bad, August was worse for them — wonder what September brings? It sure won’t be good for Vlad.
Anyway this is the thread from Hertling I am referring to. He spoke about some of this on CNN too I believe.
