Short diary, but it seems sanctions are having an effect on Russia’s airline industry. In this case, memos have been issued to commercial pilots to go easy on the brakes:
The Aviatorshina Telegram channel reported that S7 Airlines told pilots to use engine reverse thrust and to avoid autobrake mode if the runaway is long enough.
They have also been informed not to go too aggressively on the brakes in order to get off the runway quickly to make way for other planes.
Urals Airlines, Rossiya and Pobeda published similar memos instructing pilots to “pay close attention to a temporary policy of fuel efficiency and economising the aircraft’s resources”, reported The Telegraph.
Aeroflot pilots have confirmed similar memos.
The article goes on to note that Russian media sources are saying that by the end of summer, Russian domestic airlines may have to begin cannibalizing parts from some jets in order to keep others up to par.
Whoops. How’s that special military operation going in Ukraine going for you guys, eh?
