The gold standard in Iowa polling is the Des Moines Register poll. It has an astoundingly good record in the state. So this caught my eye:
NEW IOWA POLL
Republican Sen. Chuck Grassley: 46%
Democrat Mike Franken: 43%
Someone else: 4%
Not sure: 3%
Margin of error: 3.9%
HOT DAMN! We can DO this! Grassley DESERVES to be tossed out on his ass for a LOT of reasons.
GRASSLEY IS RICH BUT HE DEMANDS FARM SUBSIDIES FOR HIMSELF
Check this out:
Like many who receive farm subsidies, Grassley is a millionaire. Using Senate financial disclosure forms, the Center for Responsive Politics estimated Grassley’s net worth at $3.3 million in 2015. His largest asset was his Butler County farm, with an estimated value of $1.2 million. (The estimated median net worth of members of the Senate in 2015 was $3.2 million.)
Responding in 2017 to a report from the nonprofit Environmental Working Group that Grassley had received $367,763 in disaster and commodity subsidies from federal programs since 1996, a spokesperson for the senator didn’t dispute the amount, but said Grassley was entitled to all those subsidies and is “the leading advocate for responsible and limited government spending” in agricultural programs.
GRASSLEY: ENEMY OF WOMEN’S RIGHTS
From PolitiFact, article about the Grassley-Franken debate:
Franken was accurate during the debate when saying Grassley has followed a pro-life platform that includes trying to restrict abortion, and Grassley strongly lets people know he is pro-life. But Franken also was accurate about Grassley voting against bills codifying fair pay for women, such as the Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act in 2018 or, more recently, the 2021 Paycheck Fairness Act, when Grassley voted against cloture that would have allowed a Senate vote on that bill.
Grassley was a "no" vote on federal laws that expanded family leave. They included the 1993 Family and Medical Leave Act that allowed up to 12 weeks off with pay for the birth or adoption or foster care placement of a child; to care for a child, spouse or parent with a serious health condition; or to overcome their own serious health condition that makes doing their regular work impossible.
GRASSLEY: OPPOSED TO ELIMINATING THE CAP ON SOCIAL SECURITY TAXES
Take a look here:
Franken proposed during a town hall in Cedar Rapids last week that everyone pay the same tax rate toward Social Security regardless of income. Currently, income on workers and employers is taxed at 6.2 percent toward Social Security up to $147,000.
Grassley’s campaign went after that position in an ad last week, pointing to it as a source of increased taxes Franken supports.
In a press release, Franken’s campaign said the proposal would ensure “the rich pay what they owe to keep Social Security afloat,” and that it would “not change what working Iowans pay by one dime.”
GRASSLEY: IMPLICATED IN THE INSURRECTION
From our own annieli:
Why, Chuck, didn’t you expect Pence to be there?
Grassley voted to repeal the ACA. He voted for Trump’s picks for the Supreme Court. He is an ally of McConnell. He rails against “socialism” unless it’s Federal aid for Iowa. He is a big favorite of the ultra-radical Right Heritage Foundation. He is an enemy of gay rights. And this one stuck in my craw for a long time: IN 2012, GRASSLEY, OF ALL PEOPLE, CALLED PRESIDENT OBAMA “STUPID”. His exact words, written in his bizarre shorthand:
"Constituents askd why i am not outraged at PresO attack on supreme court independence. Bcause Am ppl r not stupid as this x prof of con law”
Screw this guy. Enough is enough. If you want to help toss Grassley out on his worthless ass, take a look at these.
Let’s get going—AND WIN IN IOWA!!!
