When I first heard him speaking on Democracy Now and read his no-holds-barred articles in the Guardian around the time Edward Snowden exploded onto the scene around 2013, I was mesmerized. I felt like he was a breath of fresh air in a mediocre sea of US media that, with few exceptions, was primarily compromised by the imperatives of corporate ownership and of the fear of upsetting sponsors or access/privileges (such government sanctioned press pools) that placed unspoken but depressing limits on how far reporters were willing to go. With his take-no-prisoners muckraking reporting and righteous weaponized editorializing against deserved enemies, such as exposing crimes and misdeeds of US imperial wars in the Middle East and NSA illegal spying, I cheered him on and was able to overlook his use of tactics that made for bad journalism — shrieking ad hominem attacks, double standards, selective cherry-picking of evidence, evidence-free insinuations, and an inability to countenance any dissenters to his [in his mind] obviously superior intellect and opinions.
Well, I guess the trance has finally worn off. It actually started falling by the wayside almost 2 years ago as I watched Greenwald twist himself into illogical contortions over Russiagate to continue insisting, regardless of the facts, that anybody who would even entertain the idea that Russia could have possibly hacked the DNC servers and engaged in meddling in the 2016 election had to be either blind Democratic Party cultists who simply couldn’t deal with the psychological pain that Hillary Clinton lost the election or evil deep state conspirators who had to get Trump. Gee, parroting the Trump/Fox News cover story to a ‘T’? But I kept hoping during the last 2 years of the Mueller Investigation that, perhaps when all the facts were finally revealed, Greenwald would be forced to admit that he was wrong and, at a minimum, humbly concede his stubborn discredited position, even if his ego didn’t allow for any apologies. His buffoonish condescending attacks on the entire media establishment excluding Trump TV and similar, and against the Democratic Party and anybody concerned about any corruption of our officials involving a foreign adversary after the release (or, upon hearing Bill Bar’s “summary” of the release) of the Mueller Report, was the last straw for me. I can no longer stand to read or listen to his shrieking, uninformed, sanctimonious, manipulative, scolding, hypocritical tabloid idiocy anymore.
He is a hypocrite of the first order. In the last week I have learned that he 1) Supported the War on Terror and Iraq war and believed that Bush should be given the benefit of the doubt, but now angrily and hilariously denies it, 2) Supported the Supreme Court’s decision on Citizens United, 3) Was a Koch Brother’s Cato Institute writer/speaker, 4) Is paid $500,000 per year at the Intercept which is owned by billionaire Paypal co-founder and libertarian Pierre Omidyar whose Paypal was involved with secret NSA collusion which Greenwald never disclosed, 5) Did not disclose conflicts of interest regarding the fact that the his employer — the Intercept’s financier — Omidyar — has for many years been paid by the US federal government USAID for work in central/south America (which makes Omidyar’s the Intercept’s sudden decision to Shut Down Access to Snowden Trove on March 14 without notice screaming for explanation, and why is Greenwald mum about...6) The Intercept Bars Co-Founder Laura Poitras From Meeting After shutting down the Snowden Archive. Poitras was the initial recipient of Snowden’s trove of secret NSA documents and was enticed by Omidyar and Glenn Greenwald to put them into Omidyar’s control when they formed First Look Media, publisher of the forthcoming Intercept at the time.
Basically, the closer I look into Glen Greenwald’s sordid past and current conflicts of interest, the more it stinks. It’s also becoming quite evident that Glenn Greenwald’s hatred for the Democratic Party and the left in general is without bounds, to the point that he has no problem aiding and abetting Fox News’ corrupt oligarchic fascist agenda. He has become Tucker Carlson’s good buddy, regularly appearing on that arsehole’s primetime show. What say you, Daily Kos Readers? Let’s discuss what is Greenwald’s agenda?
