Alabama ex-Supreme Court Chief Justice Roy Moore is a crackpot. He is anti-American, or at least anti-Constitution, and has twice now been booted from his position on the court for declarations that his own religious preferences supersede federal law, because he says so. The first time was when he installed a monument to the Ten Commandments outside his court, then refused all orders to remove it due to the flagrant mixing of religion with the law of the land. After getting booted for that breach of law he was returned to his place of power by Alabama voters, who appear to be either deeply stupid or themselves not altogether onboard with this Constitution thing when push comes to shove. Upon his return, he wrote an administrative order demanding Alabama state officials ignore the Supreme Court decision overturning same-sex marriage bans and instead abide by his own court's decision.
This got him suspended from his Supreme Court position for the remainder of his still-ongoing term, which is why he is currently looking for a new day job. The one he has his eyes on is United States senator, a position not well-suited for someone who thinks themselves above the law—but a fine one for a Talibanesque freak looking to remake the nation into one more dedicated to his personal interpretations of what God Himself Wants And To Hell With The Rest Of You.
So now the entire nation waits to see if Alabama Republicans will once again blight the rest of us with a man plainly opposed to the foundational beliefs of our republic to begin with. And so, of course, here comes Sarah Palin.
Former Vice Presidential nominee Sarah Palin is heading down to Alabama to help boost former state Supreme Court Chief Justice Roy Moore (R) in his primary against appointed Sen. Luther Strange (R-AL), joining forces with a pro-Trump super-PAC to try to knock out Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell’s (R-KY) strongly preferred candidate.
Palin will join a bus tour run by Great America Alliance, a pro-Trump group that recently added former White House staffer Andy Surabian, who has close ties to recently ousted former White House chief strategist Steve Bannon. The planned rally will occur late next week, according to a strategist close to the organization.
What can you even say? The party that sports such luminaries as Sarah Palin and Donald Trump is balking at adding Alabama crazypants Roy Moore to that pile, but the true-believer base may not give them a choice in the matter.
The white nationalist website guy is pretty sure that Roy Moore is his latest savior, and Sarah don't care so long as Sarah gets her name in the papers. It’s unlikely that the Alabama base really needed any more riling, though: To be honest, the entire state party seems to be in a hold my beer and watch this frame of mind.
