Ann Coulter has been bad mouthing the company that’s been paying my Dad for a very long time. 70 YEARS, in fact.
I’ve mentioned a few times in comments and diaries that my soon to be 95 year old Dad retired from Delta Airlines back in 1984 so I’m a bit partial to this airline. I decided I needed to defend Delta a bit, to help set the record straight. To be honest, I’m sure things have changed since my Dad retired so I can’t really say what goes on now, but it was special to me growing up in Miami. My Dad would take me to the hanger to pick up his paycheck. It was really neat. There is a book about Delta published by University of Atlanta that is amazing and actually really interesting. Here’s just a bit of history.
Delta was started as a crop dusting service and actually kept that service as a division until 1966. Later, about 1929, it got into passenger service and cargo. C.E.Woolman (born 1889-died 1966) was one of the original founders and eventually CEO. My Dad knew him and he knew my Dad. Actually, Mr. Woolman had an incredible memory and for many, many years knew all the employees to such a degree, that he would ask about their family members by name and health issues suffered. He once said, his greatest regret regarding Delta’s growth, was that he could no longer know everyone. I could always tell my Dad was impressed by Mr. Woolman.
I could give a hundred stories of my experiences with flying Delta, like once I was the only passenger on board a L1011 from Miami to Atlanta with about 6 stewardesses, all of whom asked me if they could get me anything. But I’ll save those for another time, perhaps. What I really wanted to do with this diary was to let Mr. Woolman take the floor, he can speak for himself, so here are some of his quotes to compare to Coulter’s tweets:
“Any individual or business that is completely honest in all it’s dealings is likely to succeed.”
“Develop a thirst for knowledge. This will lead to an ability to reason, to reduce the complicated to simplicity and to make prudent decisions.”
“I believe that character and integrity and honor still count for something among individuals and among corporations. And I think that courage is still admired — including the courage to adhere to one’s convictions, even when they may run counter to the popular view.”
“Dependability and a willingness to work are also attributes which still have meaning in America and everywhere.”
“We’ve got to think more than we’ve ever thought before. We’ve got to meet our unforeseen problems so intelligently that we’ll have no regrets, when we look back.”
I, for one will take Mr. Woolman and Delta over Ms. Coulter and her idiotic tweets any day of the week and I’ve been bumped in Atlanta so many times I’ve lost count.
So get over it Ann. Act like an adult instead of a petulant child. Lord knows, there’s enough of that going around. I wish we had someone of Woolman’s intelligence in the Oval Office. too.
The old Delta adage. Whether you’re going to heaven or hell you have to stop in Atlanta. We all know YOUR final destination Ms. Coulter and trump’s too.
