One week ago, voters in Virginia chose their nominees for Governor, Lt. Governor, Attorney General, and all one-hundred House of Delegates. Seventeen of those delegate districts were carried by Hillary Clinton last year but are held by Republican incumbents. If we win those seventeen seats, Democrats will regain a majority.
Six of those seats are right here in Prince William County. As I mentioned in a previous diary, this will be the main battleground for the entire commonwealth — and the entire country — this year. The Koch Brothers set up an office here about a month ago, and last week a voter empowerment group by the name of Let America Vote has done the same.
Kos contributor pdxbuckeye has done an analysis of each of these districts. Below are the profiles for each of those districts as well as their respective Democratic nominee:
House District 2 — Jennifer Carroll Foy* (Facebook — Twitter — Donate)
House District 13 — Danica Roem (Facebook — Twitter — Donate)
House District 31 — Elizabeth Guzman (Facebook — Twitter — Donate)
House District 40 — Donte Tanner (Facebook — Twitter — Donate)
House District 50 — Lee Carter (Facebook — Twitter — Donate)
House District 51 — Hala Ayala (Facebook — Twitter — Donate)
*Jennifer’s race is currently in a recount, but she’s the presumptive nominee.
In the coming weeks, I’ll be writing diaries for each one of these awesome Democrats and information on their districts. While pdxbuckeye’s profiles show us the numbers and the voter counts, the ones I have planned will be with an eye on giving some biographical and community information on the districts. I’ll also be covering some of the more… colorful aspects of the Republican incumbents.
Until I start rolling out with those, though, you all know the drill. Each and every one of these candidates has a flippable district, but they also have a long fight ahead of them. They need all the help they can get, and that starts with all of you here on Kos.
Jennifer, Danica, Elizabeth and Hala had to empty their coffers to get through the finish line on Primary Election Day, so they’ll need even more help to get back to a place to be competitive against their right-winger opponents. Whatever you can give will go a long way to ensuring we flip Prince William in November.
