Has the Democratic Party learned nothing from the victory of President Trump? Is this party to continue with the myth that being nice is the path to power? While this party, and especially this web site is in denial, acting as if vilification of the President, calling him Drumph and other silly names will have any effect on his core voters, it is that minority who voted for him that under the United States Constitution has the ability to bestow the plenary, extensive powers that he now holds.
In many states, including mine of California, we have initiative and referendum, which includes the removal of the Chief Executive, the Governor, from his position. This is a type of direct democracy that does not exist in the federal government of the United States of America. So those silly petitions that have been run on this site and by Styer is pure nonsense as it only distorts the nature of the United States Government.
Al Franken is one of the few Democrats who has the wit and guts to go toe to toe, to eviscerate Trump and his ideological leader Steve Bannon and the many followers from the Majority Leader of the Senate to the entire coterie of simple minded elected officials.
And then there’s Chuck Schumer. This man has never been other than a pandering politician, who would do what it took to keep his seat, first in the House and then in the Senate. Most Democrats are outraged that Trump officially declared Jerusalem the Capital of Israel. He has long supported exact this. And then there’s that nasty element in the new Tax bill, actually in both versions so it will be there after the reconciliation. I’m talking about the cut rate taxes on carried interest, hundreds of millions of dollars that are given to Hedge Fund operators that won’t be available for Medicare, Infrastructure and health care. It was Schumer who singlehandedly prevented this give away to be abolished in 2007. And while I’m on his case, it was he who introduced the Freedom of Religion Act of 1993; That after some complex Supreme Court Decisions, where only Justice John Stevens said clearly it was unconstitutional in its essence, it became law in various states. It was this law that was the crux of the argument for Hobby Lobby, that still is the curse of our society
It is this individual who is acting as the moral leader of the Democratic Party in demanding that Al Franken resign.
Franken should re-claim his seat- no matter what he said after being beat up by his “allies” , and schedule the planned ethics hearing to cover not only himself, but even without having any effect, to include Donald J. Trump. It takes two thirds of the Senate to expel a member, and this ethics hearing should also include Roy Moore, should he win his election. And then he will abide by the decision of the Senators in assembly that will be balanced and reflect the change in mores that have occurred at break neck speed.
During this discussion, when the subject veers to actions that are now considered reprehensible, but not illegal, it would be a good time to explore that section of the United States Constitution that says, “There shall be no Ex Post facto laws” It would be valuable to ponder why that clause was included, and why the principle should be adhered to.
Oh, something to consider: “Lambs are not known to prevail over wolf packs”
