I helped Dad vote today. That is to say, we went to the Municipal Center, and he did an in-person absentee ballot.
That included the Democratic state-wide slate, and his local Dems: Leigh Anne Bowling for Delegate (donate), John Bell for Sheriff (donate), and Susan Hippen for Treasurer (donate).
Special thanks to pdxbuckeye for assembling this excellent guide to the local candidates.
And very special thanks to the candidates stepping up locally. He was pleased to have a nearly complete slate to vote for. Thank you!
Voting in Virginia Beach, VA has started!
(See the official in-person absentee voting here.)
It can be done at the Virginia Beach Municipal Center, Building 14, Monday through Friday, 8am to 5pm, 9/22 through 11/3, and Saturdays, 8am to 5pm, 10/21, 10/28, and 11/4.
Two additional voting locations open on 10/23: Bayside Recreation Center and Great Neck Recreation Center.
Vote by mail information is also available, and it’s not too late to request a mail-in ballot, either.
The setup at the Municipal Center was great: five booths (or maybe a sixth on the other side of the scanner), what amounted to scantron sheets, and a secure scanner + ballot deposit box. Dad entered his own ballot and saw it being scanned. (Another voter came in at the same time we did, and the counter was manned like they expected a continual flow.)
Much easier than when I looked into doing this myself in the 90s. And, given recent speculation and hacking demonstrations, I was pleased to see paper ballots.
