After voting ends on the East Coast, will the phone banks in Democratic offices lie unused? Will volunteers count their work as done and watch the returns come in? It'd be a misfortune if resources lay fallow while polls were still open and GOTV work still needed to be done in the western part of the country. And especially with those recent Hawaii polls that show things being really close, it'd be good if we Eastern Time Democrats could use our resources to benefit our teammates in other time zones.
I asked one of the coordinators at the Ann Arbor office today if we'd be calling other parts of the country once polls closed in Michigan. He said that he'd be happy to do it if the Democrats of other states asked us. So now I'm asking you Hawaiians and Pacific folk -- why don't you ask us? It'd also be nice if any early risers among you Western folk could handle some of our GOTV phone calls in exchange. It's more important that we help you, though, since time is probably less valuable after polls close than it is before they open.
I don't want be biting my nails as I watch the returns in Wednesday AM, hoping Hawaii goes Democratic and wishing our people had arranged to help you guys out.
