Just a quick note to maybe lift your spirits a little. And I do mean lift.
This is only on a couple of smallish local news outlets, so I’m guessing very few have seen it.
Three weeks ago, Massachusetts had to stop allowing visits at nursing homes, and that left 88-year-old Nick Avtges unable to see his wife of 61 years, Marion, in person. He could only talk to her on the phone, and of course he’s worried and wants to see how she’s doing. He knows she’d be really happy to see him.
His son Chris could tell how sad his dad was, so he went all-out to find a way to make it happen somehow. After probing around on Facebook, he found some willing helpers:
The next thing Chris knew, the Facebook post was shared and one of his Watertown High School friends, Peter Tzannos, hooked him up with Ryan Donnellan of Donnellan Tree Services in Watertown who was able to provide the bucket lift.
Chris wanted to surprise his father, and hid the Facebook post from him, but his father saw the post shared by someone else.
“He cried tears of joy,” said Chris.
The nursing home was supportive of the idea and they arranged for the visit to happen April 8. Surrounded by family and close friends, Nick, donning a Patriots facemask and gloves, was strapped into the disinfected bucket, and hoisted up to the second story window where he was able to see Marion.
