Between Trump's recent decision to withdraw from the Paris Climate Accord and Sessions possibly having ANOTHER investigation around his neck, it’s not exactly hard to be fed up with the Republican politicians in our country. Their brand of crazy gets crazier with each passing day, and the American people are the ones paying for it.
At this point, though, you’re probably asking yourself: “what can I do about it?”
Great question, and here’s the answer: stand with Virginia this year.
2017 is a big year for Virginia politics: we have the Governor, Lt. Governor, Attorney General, and all 100 House of Delegates (lower state house) seats up for grans. We get that first large-scale electoral answer to Trump and everything the Republicans are doing.
But here’s the thing — you don’t even have to wait until November to help us stand up and fight back! The June 13th Primary Election is less than two weeks away, and we have dozens of Democratic challengers running all over the commonwealth. I’m one of them.
Each and every one of us running in contested primaries this year are building our base so whoever takes on the Republican will have the best and most robust coalition possible. We’re knocking on hundreds of doors a day, reaching thousands of voters per week with our mail programs, and getting folks registered and voting early.
A bigger turnout in the primaries translates to a huge turnout in November. A huge turnout in November is how we send the Republicans a loud and clear message that we’re sick and tired of their games. It also gets folks primed for the Congressional races next year.
Lives are on the line with much of their legislation, and it’s time we started fighting like it.
Below is a full list of the House of Delegate Districts with contested Democratic Primaries. Look them up online to see their positions, issues and background; pick the one who speaks to you most, adopt them, and chip in! Quite a few of us have phone banks which can be done from anywhere in the country, and all of us can use donations for our war chests.
Every dollar that comes in now goes directly out to the kind of voter outreach we’ll need to win not only in June, but in November too. You can make a difference, Kos; you just have to step up and help us out!
(note: Candidates with an asterisk next to their name are Democratic incumbents for that particular seat.)

Really fighting back starts with registering folks to vote and getting them into the process. The Republicans have done a real number on us over the years with partisan gerrymandering voter suppression; the only way to counter it is to get more voters onto the rolls and build from the grassroots.
Take a look at 90 for 90.org to see how we’re doing just that right here in Virginia.
