While the Koch Brothers are sending out mail pieces on behalf of our right-wing regressive delegates, we’ve been firing on all cylinders over the past few weeks to fight back. Above is the face of a mail piece we sent out last week, and we’ll be sending out a direct counter-punch to the “school choice” nonsense next week. Voters need to understand that the resistance is strong, and that we’re coming for the Republicans’ seats this year like no other.
Of course, the mail aspect of our campaign is to supplement our bread and butter — the ground game. We’ve been doing canvasses every weekend now, and even during the week we’ve got folks (including myself) walking the neighborhoods of the 51st and knocking on doors. We’re getting back to basics; meeting voters at their doors, learning their concerns, and lending a voice to those who have been forgotten about.
This past weekend, we had local folks come out to help, as well as folks from D.C. and a few folks from Run For Something also walked with us. We knocked on over 400 doors on Saturday, and spoke to scores of voters
Today — May 22nd — is the last day to register to vote in the June 13th Primary. it’s also the last day for registered folks to update their information.
There are several reasons why getting folks registered for the June 13th primary is vital:
- It gives us a more representative democracy if more folks vote.
- Folks are a lot more likely to vote in the election that takes place directly after they register.
- If we have more folks on the voter rolls and voting now, it’ll give us a broader pool to use for the General Election in November.
- Folks who vote in an off-year primary election are a lot more likely to vote in the General Election. Also in Congressional races next year, and then again in 2019. We’re building our base for national elections by making voting in these local and state elections habitual.
This is the year we as Virginians get the first large-scale electoral answer to the new administration, and everything we’ve seen in the last 110+ days. We need to make that answer as large and as big as possible. And that starts with high voter participation.
