I’m honored to have been recently featured in a Washington Post Politics Facebook Live Interview about my decision to run for the Virginia House of Delegates for the 81st House District as a result of my work with Indivisble757. The Post highlighted my activism and my candidacy as emblematic of the overall resistance to Trump/GOP agenda. I will also be featured in the Washington Post scheduled for Friday April 28, 2017. I will be sure to post an update!
Our group is just part of a vibrant Grassroots Coalition of Groups in Hampton Roads including Together We Will, Mother Board and many others. “Our actions are based on our values. We want to engage the community civically,” “Right now, polls show that 57 percent of the people believe that our government should be doing more to meet people’s needs. Right now, the government is not doing that and that’s why we’ve engaged.”
My first priority as a Delegate will be to make sure every Virginia resident has high quality, affordable healthcare coverage. My personal journey as a cancer survivor gave me a firsthand look at how our healthcare system works and the irreplaceable role that quality coverage plays in achieving the best possible outcomes for the largest number of people. ““Every Virginian deserves the same opportunity. We cannot afford to let thousands of people in our state go without the coverage they need.”
I am running in the Democratic primary that will be held on June 13, 2017. If successful, I will face Barry Knight, a Republican incumbent who has never faced a Democratic challenger, in a general election in November.
I believe that we can win the general election in November but first we have to win the primary. You can help us win by getting involved in our campaign.
