Looking for legit sources on this, but it seems as if Ammon Bundy and three others have been arrested.
This report from KATU in Portland, OR.
Sources tell KATU News there was some sort of engagement involving shots fired as the militia group was on its way to a meeting in John Day.
Off to search the interwebz for more.
KEZI in Springfield OR is reporting this:
BURNS, Ore. -- Ammon Bundy and three others have been arrested near the Malheur National Wildlife Refuge and shots were fired, ABC News reports.
The Harney District Hospital in Burns is on lockdown, CNN reports
Highway 395, near Burns, is closed near milepost 67 at the intersection with Highway 20, according to the Oregon Department of Transportation's website.
And now we’ve jumped the pond: The Daily Mail (aka “Daily Fail”) has this:
Ammon Bundy was one of four militiamen to be detained by the FBI on Tuesday evening after shots were fired on the premises, according to Oregon Live.
Two people were shot, the report claims.
More from Occupy Democrats (h/t Eyesbright)
The group was apparently ambushed on their way to a community meeting in the town of John Day with Grant County Sheriff Glen Palmer and other citizens, who were planning on telling them to leave – and not for the first time. The highway has been closed off. An AirLink medivac helicopter has been dispatched to scene, indicating that at least one has serious injuries. KTVZ noted that “unconfirmed police scanner reports indicated the pilots were advised armed officers would be meeting the helicopter when it returns to Bend,” indicating that it was a militant that was wounded.
Willamette Week puts it succinctly:
A remarkably small amount is known about an arrest that could mark the end of a public standoff that has held Oregon hostage for nearly a month.
CBS makes it “official.”
Well, there isn’t much new news, although there seems to be some misinformation in the twitter sphere about the details. I’ll update if there is something substantive. There are some loonies with long guns left at the reserve, so whatever happened, I hope nothing blows up there.
NBC sources from FBI.
Ammon Bundy, one of two brothers leading anti-government protesters occupying Malheur National Wildlife Refuge in Oregon, and four other people were arrested Tuesday in a confrontation with authorities, the FBI said. One person was dead, the FBI said.
Shots were fired about 4:25 p.m. (7:25 ET) when the FBI and Oregon State Police began an "enforcement action" at the wildlife refuge, the FBI said.
I have a Rockford Files queued up on Netflix (nice, clean car chases), so I’ll bid you all good night. No doubt in the morning some of the rumors will be cleared up.
