Greetings from Tucson ...
And welcome to another BAK Open Thread. I am thrilled to announce that the 5th Annual Baja Arizona Kossacks Picnic will be held in beautiful, charming, funky Bisbee, Arizona on Saturday, May 2. I know it's a bit of a drive for Tucsonans but members of the Cochise County Chapter make the same drive to come to Meet-Ups in Tucson and, just speaking for me and mine, we've never not had a good time in Bisbee. If you're looking for an excuse to get out of town, this is as good as any. Let's take a road trip!

First the News
Copper prices are down. It's a shame about the layoffs, but maybe the mining companies will have to rethink their plans for Rosemont and that one near Superior. ➡ Daily Star
Jim Nintzel has a good summary of the new state budget over at Tucson Weekly. ➡ So I Elected an Ax Murderer
Has it really been 5 years ?
Why yes, it has. The first one was held at a ramada at Reid Park, in the very center of Tucson. We had potluck and after our time at the ramada ran out we adjourned to the Zello's place for music and more conversation. Here's my write-up of that one. ➡ First Evah The second one started out at our place. I did Sonoran dogs, people brought sides. I didn't write that one up, here's the Open Thread. ➡ RSVP This picture is us at the 3rd Annual at IMJ's place. That was a picturesque venue in the foothills of the Rincons. She did BBQ'd ribs, write-up here. ➡ 3rd Annual Picnic Last year we did brats at Casa de sneakers. In order to avoid writing that one up I tried doing a liveblog. The results were disappointing since it was hard to post a diary and still take part in the conversations. You can see that experiment here. ➡ Meet-Up Liveblog I've had a great time at each one of these picnics. Did we change the world ? Probably not. Did we even manage to elect a Progressive in CD-2 ? No. But we did have some good food, some laughs and much good conversion.
So let's do it again.
This one has the potential to be the best one yet. We've already got 8 RSVPs, you can see these in our announcement in the daily Connect! Unite! Act! series. ➡ CUA. I'd like to get a lot more. There are 2 or 3 from Cochise County who haven't checked in yet and we need more from Tucson. Again, the date is Saturday, May 2, the venue is Garfield Park in Bisbee. That's on Tombstone Canyon Rd. on the north end of town. We'll be staying at the Schoolhouse Inn B&B which is adjacent to the park. They probably still have some rooms left. If not, there are plenty of cool places to stay in Bisbee, like The Inn at Castle Rock, The Shady Dell or the more upscale Copper Queen. I was thinking of bringing Korean BBQ and a jar of home-made Kimchi if we're doing pot-luck. That's all I've got for now, give us your feedback in the comments.
