The only way this could get any better is if everyone involved were juggling chainsaws and spinning plates while announcing it. Sen. Rand Paul may have lost his regular
Washington Times column as a result of apparently widespread plagiarism from other sources (and really, when you're too unethical for the
Washington Times, you have
accomplished something) but fear not, increasingly gullible Rand Paul fans: He's a-movin' to
Breitbart:
“We are pleased to add Senator Paul to our lineup of fearless, original thought leaders," said Breitbart News CEO Larry Solov. "Most of all, we think the fighting spirit he has become known for is a perfect fit for Breitbart News Network and reflects that of our founder, Andrew Breitbart.”
Hell, he's got us there. You couldn't ask for a more perfect fit. Breitbart News, of course, was founded as a platform for false news stories and outright conspiracy theories patched together by Andrew Breitbart, James O'Keefe, and other conservative rag dolls of continually declining competency—a World Net Daily that would strive to reach the same levels of tinny paranoia, but with a greater emphasis on absolute ideological rigidity. It is only natural to presume it would be a welcoming haven for a serial plagiarizer. It also further demonstrates how little the actual sitting senator Paul knows or cares about journalistic or editorial ethics or anything we other inhabitants of the planet might recognize as shame.
In addition to being a severe blow to what teensy little shreds of credibility Rand Freaking Paul had been clinging to, it perhaps also hints that Rand Paul wasn't being truthful when he said the termination of his Washington Times column was a mutual decision between them and him. He had been making loud protestations in the last few days that the plagiarism instances were accidental effects of he and his staff trying to take on too much; one interpretation of the "mutual" decision would be that Paul was generously trying to right that wrong by reducing his let's-call-it-writing output. That isn't the case, however. He's just moving his regular output of writing from the racist-coddling, conspiracy-mongering Washington Times to an ideological burrow that has even fewer ethical restrictions on his work.
And that is freaking hilarious.
