I posit there are three points that simplify the cause of the current disaster that is seriously eroding this country. The cure is obvious - the application of the cure isn't likely in the current political morass.
In IMHO, this is the underlying issue of the whole #Occupy movement.

..Beyond the orange swirly …...
1. There are very wealthy individuals and corporations in this nation. Their fortunes and those of their corporate “people” buddies can be directly impacted (either positively or negative ) by the government, the rules and regulations the government enacts and the degree to which those rules and regulations are enforced is critical to their, more than, already extremely well being.
2. The SCOTUS has decreed that corporate “people” can give as much money to political campaigns as they like. That is, of course, beyond the billions they have spent on lobbyist and continue to do so, nor does it include the car loads of cash they pour into AstroTurf “citizen” advocacy organizations.
3. Politicians (particular House members) must spend a huge chunk of time raising money for the next election so it's fair to assume a few large donors will beat the snot out of tramping around among the peasantry for chump change. [ point # 2 comes into play here]. And, a politician would NEVER want to displease their generous benefactors by supporting legislation “offensive” to them. With exception of the vanishing ethical politician (which is now considered an oxymoron) the rest are bought and paid for toadies..
Given points 1, 2 and 3 how can anyone with an IQ above that of a warthog not see how fucked up this system is and why it is ?
What do I think #OWS wants ? Fix that fucked up system – and most of the other grievances will disappear.
I have 4 degenerated disc and can't walk or stand for any length of time but I plan to go the #OccupyDenver tomorrow for as long as I can – I'm taking extra pain meds.
[I've got to get to that scooter store].
