This is just a very short diary, more of a pimping project, actually. I remember Kent State 40 years ago. Its disconcerting to think that it was so long ago, and that these kids would be getting senior discounts now and worrying about their grandkids.
I've been running like crazy today, in and out of court, and trying to figure out how to deal with a county department when they want to cut us past the point that we can effectively do our jobs...and then I think that 40 years ago people like me were being gunned down and US citizens were applauding. On KGO Radio in San Francisco today Ronn Owens was advocating losing civil liberties to protect ourselves in the current war, though he admitted he didn't know how it would do any good. Glenn Beck was making sense saying that citizens should get Miranda warnings (of course Miranda applies to persons, but any sense from Mr. Beck is welcome)...and 40 years ago they were shooting college kids.
I can't write a diary to do this justice so I'm going to link to
one, or two that are worth reading.
Best wishes to all on this date.
Oh, and lets not forget the young people down at Jackson State either.
