For the last 2 presidential cycles, democrats have practically framed their presidential campaigns around the Bush tax cuts. John Kerry promised us he would "roll back the tax cuts," and as bad a candidate as he was, he still came within Ohio of becoming President.
In 2008 nearly all our candidates assured us the Bush cuts would be history if they were elected. Maybe it was all the candidates, I don't really remember, but we do know that our eventual nominee Barack Obama was strident about getting rid of the tax cuts.
It's time to deliver on this promise. It's been 10 long years of direct tax give aways to the rich, and the economy has gotten progressively worse.
During the Bush era, there was a significant loss of jobs, and even though the last year has seen some job creation, unemployment has remained much too high. Too many people out of work, and too many people losing hope.
It is by now more than obvious that the rich and super rich have no intention of investing the handouts they have been receiving in the last 10 years to create more jobs or stimulate the economy in any way. It just didn't happen and it's not going to happen by giving them millions more.
They have simply pocketed this money, and think our treasury is their personal 24 hour ATM. Then again, why should they invest money or stimulate the economy in the old fashioned capitalist way, when all they have to do is get congress to keep giving them more tax give aways? Yes, no incentive for them, none at all.
Remember when the rich practically made a crusade out of the idea that welfare was bad, because it took away peoples incentive to work. Well, along those same lines, don't the rich need incentives to invest in their businesses and industries to make more money? Haven't tax giveaways obviously reduced their incentive to work at making money or does this whole incentive idea only apply to poor people?
It's time to let these tax cuts expire. If we could save the middle class tax cuts that would be great, but we can't allow the republicans to hold them hostage. We need to get this economy going again. We need to create jobs, and get people back to work and a major step towards doing this will be to end these damn tax breaks for people who don't need them, and are not using them for anything other than increasing their wealth and riches.
