Remember the absurd, campy, embarrassing "It's Raining McCain" video for McCain? Daily Kos front pagers wondered whether the video was a real McCain fan production or a spoof, and the whole world waited with great anticipation to find out the truth.
Meanwhile, John McCain, his daughter, Fox News, and the world believed the video was produced by fans. Turns out they were majorly punked by the famous McCain Girls "It's Raining McCain" Video.
The silly video that 'supports' McCain was a hoax, a spoof, a parody, an April Fools joke made by none other than 23/6.com. Who's 23/6.com?:
236.com, a progressive political comedy and news media project site, is associated with both Huffingtonpost and also Air America dj Sam Seder.
Follow me below the fold for more amusement-- I promise this gets much funnier.
More about 236.com
Seder, at his own site, says that "the mccaingirls is a creation of the voice of the samsedershow... H. Jon Benjamin for 236.com". People associated with Sam Seder's shows were involved in the creation of the video that fooled Republicans and the world. H. John Benjamin, who used to be part of a comic duo with Seder, produced the video.

Here's the video again:
This genius parody was based on a dance hall hit from 1982: "It's Raining Men" by the Weather Girls. Another version of the original tune featured noted cross dressing drag queen comedian Ru Paul on vocals. Yes, this story gets weirder and more amusing. Strangely, Paul Schaffer of Dave Letterman bandleader fame co-wrote the original song, but who knows why!!. Here are some of the lyrics of the original tune:
Humidity is rising - Barometer's getting low
According to all sources, the street's the place to go
Cause tonight for the first time
Just about half-past ten
For the first time in history
It's gonna start raining men.
It's Raining Men! Hallelujah! - It's Raining Men! Amen!
I'm gonna go out to run and let myself get
Absolutely soaking wet!
It's Raining Men! Hallelujah!
It's Raining Men! Every Specimen!
Tall, blonde, dark and lean
Rough and tough and strong and mean
God bless Mother Nature, she's a single woman too...
That might explain why, when it was offered to Donna Summer, Grace Jones, Diana Ross, Cher, Chaka Khan, Aretha Franklin, Teena Marie, Gloria Gaynor, and even Barbra Streisand they all turned it down, before the obscure Weather Girls took it on.
Here's the Weather Girls video of It's Raining Men. Please click on it, it's quite hilarious, something you have to see to believe:
Watching this makes me understand how truly inspired 23/6.com was to base their parody on this.
Actually, the RuPaul re-make version is quite outstandingly hilarious as well, and it looks more like that version may have been the visual inspiration for the McCain girls. Check it out here, it's a funny one:
Amazingly, there are a number of other versions of the original song at YouTube, none as terrifically absurd as the Weather Girls or comically clever as RuPaul, but if you enjoy the stunningly awful, please check the other versions out here. There's even a Star Trek: Voyager collage video version made for us Trekkies er Trekkers like me.
NY Times investigates
The NY Times got on the scoop on 4-14-08 trying to figure out if the video was for real or a spoof. Their intrepid reporter found out:
"We were pretty amazed that after the video came out, people were confused as to whether or not it was real," [23/6.com President] Ms. Bernard said. "That’s when I think we said ‘Hey, can we actually pull off a hoax here? How long can we keep it going?’ "
John McCain and his daughter loved it when they thought it was a supportive video.
"I think they’re wonderful," Mr. McCain said on the Fox News Channel last week. "I have watched that video several times." Check out this video snippet interview on Fox about it here, it's pretty funny in itself for its total patheticness in every way and how Fox & McCain fall for it.
Front pagers at daily kos had linked to his daughter's site where she had gushed over it too on her blog. It appears she has removed the video and any mention of it from her upscale, overprivileged, class warfare mongering prissy don't worry 'bout torture be happy smiley faces and bunny rabbits little website, but I saw it there when it the front pagers had linked to it.
"Here Comes McCain Again"
Here's a new McCain musical video spoof by 236.com done to the tune of the Eurythmics' Here Comes the Rain Again. I couldn't find an embeddable version, so click on this link instead to the 236.com site to see it.
One more note about Sam Seder. He's started a petition campaign to get a regular daily show on Air America. Go here to sign the petition. I did. If Sam's associates are producing the McCain Girls videos, just think how much more fun Sam can wreak havoc with if he returns to Air America with a daily show.
