Wow, this happened in February, and yet did anybody hear about this? Whistleblower Dana Jill Simpson's home caught fire, and then a few days later, her car was run off the road by a former police officer! This is all in addition to Don Siegelman's home being broken into twice, as was his lawyer's office.
What the hell is going on?
These crimes raise serious questions about possible use of deliberate intimidation tactics not only because of who the victims are and the already wide criticism of the prosecutions to begin with, but also because of the suspicious nature of each incident individually as well as the pattern collectively. Typically burglars do not break-into an office or private residence only to rummage through documents, for example, as is the case with most of the burglaries in these two federal cases.
In Alabama, for instance, the home of former Democratic Governor Don Siegelman was burglarized twice during the period of his first indictment. Nothing of value was taken, however, and according to the Siegelman family, the only items of interest to the burglars were the files in Siegelman's home office.
Siegelman's attorney experienced the same type of break-in at her office.
....
The incidents are not limited to burglaries. In Mississippi, former Judge John Whitfield was the victim of arson at his office. In Alabama, the whistleblower in the Don Siegelman case, Dana Jill Simpson, had her home burned down, and shortly thereafter her car was allegedly forced off the road.
I don't want to quote any more due to copyright, but everyone should go read the entire Raw Story article. They go on to detail the incident involving Dana Jill Simpson where her home caught fire. I say "caught", because nobody knows for sure how the fire started. It's still unsolved. There's also much more information involving the break-ins at Siegelman's home and his lawyer's office.
Now, I'm not one for tinfoil conspiracies, but when all these incidents happen recently to key people involved in the U.S. attorney scandal down in Alabama, and when those burglaries seemed very targeted, where money and valuables weren't stolen, but office files were rifled through, something doesn't quite add up. Are we supposed to believe all these separate crimes are simply coincidences?
Update: What can you do? E-mail the media and tell them to cover this story! So far, after the 60 Minutes piece, the media collectively seemed to forget this ever happened, save for MSNBC's Dan Abrams. E-mail him (at "verdict at msnbc dot com") encouraging him to keep it up, and e-mail everyone else in the media to make them START covering this story. Anyone know Keith Olbermann's e-mail? "countdown at msnbc dot com" no longer seems to work.
OK, I don't normally ask for this, but I'm asking y'all to rec this diary so the maximum amount of people can see this. Because, nobody other than Abrams seems to want to even touch this story. There's already a media blackout on this story. Let's not have a DailyKos blackout on this story too. (Update: And... just as I typed this paragraph, it ends up on the rec list. LOL, I have such great timing.)
Update 2: So ya wanna make a difference? Well, as Dan Abrams has pointed out, Congress is in the process of having Rove testify before them on this matter, which his lawyer is stonewalling, naturally. They may have to issue a subpoena. To hasten them in their decision, why not call them up and let them know you want answers to this case, and are sick and tired of them doing nothing about it? Ask them what's taking so long. Demand action.
Even call the Republicans, because though they'll be unwilling to help out, make them understand that this issue will hurt them at the ballot box in November. Cite wiscmass when he says that anyone unwilling to apply the law is a co-conspirator, and that you're perfectly willing to wait until the 111th Congress, when the DOJ will have a real Attorney General, to prosecute those who sat on their feet and stalled this thing, including members of Congress.

Update 3: Here's the video of Dan Abrams talking about how Rove's lawyer got snippy with him last week.
