On Thursday, March 1, my hero Al Gore will venture into the wilds of Giant SUV Land to deliver a presentation on global climate change. He will appear at the Lloyd Noble Center in Norman at 4:00 p.m. (doors open at 3:00).
More below...
Mr. Gore’s talk is part of an environmental event hosted by the University of Oklahoma and will be preceded by a debate between geophysicist and associate professor David Deming and David Karoly, the Williams Chair professor of meteorology. Professor Deming is a climate change skeptic affiliated with the Oklahoma Council of Public Affairs, an outfit that bills itself as "the premier conservative think tank in Oklahoma." He believes that Jim "Global Warming is a Hoax" Inhofe is both correct and courageous in his naysayer stance, so this debate should be interesting. It will be held at 1:30 in the Meacham Auditorium (Oklahoma Memorial Union).
If you are in or near central Oklahoma and can make the trip to Norman tomorrow, I encourage you to come to hear Mr. Gore speak. I would like to see a good turnout in hopes of demonstrating to the rest of the country that we Okies are not all ignorant rubes held in thrall by Big Oil.
It would also be fun to have an Okie Kossack meet-up afterwards, if anyone is interested. I’m always so jealous every time I read about a Kossack meeting in another state; it’s time we had one here! I know where to find the best beer in Norman, and as an incentive, I’ll spring for the first round.
So if you’re a Okie Kossack hungry for the company of like-minded souls, chime in below and we’ll see what we can arrange.
And come hear Al speak if you can. I’ll be there with my "Run, Al, Run!" sign.
P.S. Some media outlets have the location wrong. It will NOT be at Catlett Music Center; I have confirmed with the Special Events office that it will be at the Lloyd Noble Center.
UPDATE: As Klio has so graciously pointed out below, there is a Drinking Liberally chapter here in Norman, and it just so happens that their meet-up is tomorrow from 7-9 at New York Pizza. Since the event runs until 6, that sounds just about perfect. Hope to see you there!
