Tonight is the Democracy for America meetup. You can find a location near you at the
meetup.com website.
Although Howard Dean is the figurehead of the group, it has always been powered by the grassroots. And the aims of the group are quite similar to those I've seen expressed here: We seek fundamental change in the way our party and our country do politics and we believe that we don't have to move to the right and compromise our principles to win elections. No matter what candidate you supported during the primaries, you're welcome at the DFA meetup if you share these goals.
Planning for running for offices in 2005 is on the agenda tonight. We hope to turn back the tide by employing the same techniques the Republicans used to start their ascendency--by running for local offices like school board or county offices to get a progressive message in place.
If you'd like to connect with local people who feel as you do, check out DFA meetup tonight. If you used to attend meetup but quit, give it another try--you might be surprised how vibrant the group remains.
