Rep. Maxine Waters (D-CA) threw some serious shade and prompted laughter during a House Rules Committee meeting.
The committee was debating a resolution on “denouncing the horrors of socialism”. Rep. Guy Reschenthaler (R-PA) did not much like Rep. Waters’ statement that the resolution is “wasting our time” because the biggest threat to democracy was the failed insurrection on Jan. 6. So, he decided to question her further.
Reschenthaler said, “I think the fact that this isn’t passing on suspension just says everything about my friends across the aisle, that you can’t condemn socialism?” “I mean, in your opening remarks, you were talking about Putin, Kim Jong-un, and Xi. You know what they all have in common, right?”
Without missing a beat, Waters responded, “Trump.”
Several people, including Reschenthaler laughed. However, he continued to pursue his line of questioning, exclaiming incredulously, “Trump? North Korea, China, and Russia?”
“He loves Kim Jong-un.” she answered.
Reschenthaler continued, “… I would say ‘communism’. Would you like to denounce and communist leaders?”
Instead of answering the “gotcha” question directly, Waters brought receipts. She held up a sheet of paper and began reading Trump’s own words about the North Korean leader: “Kim wrote me beautiful letters and they’re great letters, and we fell in love,”
She stopped reading and asked Reschenthaler, “You sure you wanna hear the rest of it?”
Rep. Maxine Waters, gentlepersons. Gotta love her.
