One way to interpret the crushing of Liz Cheney in the Wyoming primaries is that it reflects America as it would be under the trumpist vision. Trump's dominance over the right is absolute. This is what he and his movement want to do to America as a whole.
This is not about loyalty to Trump, it is about survival in the part of the country already under his thumb. It is about his personal power over the apparatus.
In that part of the country there is no contrary media that could support her. There are no potential allies on the right. There is nothing for her to build a campaign on. Event organizers know better than to challenge him. Militants sincerely threaten violence against his opposition. Donors seeking influence would be fools to support her, and is there any other kind of donor? Right-wingers acknowledge January 6 and recognize the legitimacy of Biden’s election only in whispers.
This is America under Trump. He has it already, for this limited part of it. There, he is already Putin.
