It is clear Kevin Brady likely believed he would face the type of host he faces on the Sunday version of the show, even though Chuck has been getting a bit more assertive recently. Well, he has always challenged Democrats. He is not offering a bit more challenges to some Republicans as well. Todd asserted early that it seems that while a few Republicans still fancy the fiscal discipline moniker, the party may believe in something else. "It doesn't seem like that is a message that has taken hold inside the Party," Chuck Todd said. "Do you think the Party has lost its interest? That the rank and file has moved in another direction?" Brady laughably said that the rising deficits keep most Republicans awake. Did he forget that they were responsible for north of $1 Trillion just with the <a href="http://egbertowillies.com/tag/tax-cut-scam" target="_blank">Trump/Republican</a> tax cut scam? Of course, he continues to lie about growing out of the deficits with tax cuts that, as President recently pointed out in his presidential address, <a href="https://egbertowillies.com/2021/04/29/punish-republicans-with-this-part-of-the-biden-speech-every-time-they-object-to-his-agenda/" target="_blank" title="">'trickle-down economic' has failed</a>. After Brady continued to call out Biden's proposals as causing deficits or taxing too much, Chuck reminded the congressman that his party has always busted the budget. When Brady said they balanced the budget in the nineties, he reminded him it was a Democrat, Clinton, in the presidency. The congressman then visibly infuriated Todd implying Todd was misleading. "It is not misleading," Check Todd snapped back. "Republicans have had full control of the government multiple times in the 21st century and the debt has skyrocketed both times." The Republican Party sacrificed one of the few Republicans left, recoverable from the Trump sycophancy and a misinforming and lying predisposition. He ceded the little respect he had left to his fatally flawed party. It was clear that his programmed response to the presidential address was yet another diatribe of misinformation and patent lies. <a href="https://egbertowillies.com/tag/lawrence-odonnell/" target="_blank">Lawrence O'Donnell</a> asked Ron Klain to comment on several of Scott's statements. Specifically, Scott dismissively claimed that the tide was already turning when President Biden took office and that it was Trump's Warp Speed that was responsible for the new President's success. Democrats generally do not have quick and simple enumerated responses. However, the Biden administration is a well-oiled machine that is well managed and generally remains on the proper narrative. From White House Press Secretary <a href="http://egbertowillies.com/tag/jen-psaki" target="_blank">Jen Psak</a>i's press conferences, which should be clinics to all executive branches, this administration remains on point, articulate, prepared, and competent. Well, <a href="http://egbertowillies.com/tag/ron-klain">Ron Klain</a> was ready. "I have always said I think the Trump administration deserves some credit for its work on vaccine development," Ron Klain said. "But in terms of where the tide was when Joe Biden became president, the week before he became president, this country had a million people file for unemployment. The week he became president, 900,000. We were losing people at the rate of 3000 to 4000 a day for COVID. Two weeks before Joe Biden became President; more people died from COVID than during the Vietnam War. So that is where the tide was when Joe Biden became president. We weren't vaccinating people. Fewer than one percent of seniors were fully vaccinated when Joe Biden swore the oath of office. Today that number is 70% in just a hundred days. Yes, the vaccines were developed basically on science that came along before Donald Trump became president. But sure, I am happy to give the Trump administration credit for moving that along. But the key thing isn't vaccines but vaccinations. It's getting those shots in people's arms. It's getting the economy turned around. That's what started when Joe Biden became president." I explain the inconvenient truth that neither Republicans nor pharmaceutical corporations are eager to tell in the video. The innovation they tout very often is funded by we-the-people, yes, taxpayer dollars. And the technology for the message RNA vaccines was being researched for decades. <blockquote> The vaccines made by Pfizer and Moderna, which are likely to be the first to win FDA approval, in particular rely heavily on two fundamental discoveries that emerged from federally funded research: the viral protein designed by Graham and his colleagues, and the concept of RNA modification, first developed by Drew Weissman and Katalin Karikó at the University of Pennsylvania. The construction of this segment of the president’s speech was perfect. Understand this. It isn't that  Republicans are averse to giving the American people the social programs they want and need. It is that they do not want rich people to pay their fair share of taxes for it. Of course, they also do not want the middle-class too comfortable. Otherwise, “market forces” would force higher wages if the government, as a backstop, prevents homelessness and starvation.  Biden begins with the challenge in the segment. “When you hear someone say that they don’t want to raise taxes on the wealthiest 1% and on corporate America,” Biden said. “Ask them: whose taxes are you going to raise instead, and whose are you going to cut?” It is the question Republicans can’t answer because their philosophy does not include taxes for the wealthy or visible taxes for the rest. User fees, toll roads, and other “taxes” administered by the private sector on the general population are fine under their ideology. Biden then reminds Republicans of the converse. They lied as they passed a <a href="http://egbertowillies.com/tag/tax-cut-scam" target="_blank" title="">tax cut scam</a>, even as they knew it would not be paid for and that the corporate thugs would pocket the money and have very little of it trickle to the middle-class. Biden then described the ills of crony unfettered capitalism without ever calling it by name. He just describes how it functions. As 20 million people lost their jobs during the pandemic, 650 Billionaires made over $1 Trillion. CEOs continue to make orders of magnitude over their employees. And then he calls out the fraud. “My fellow Americans,” Biden said. “Trickle-down economics has never worked. It’s time to grow the economy from the bottom up and middle out.” The segment of the speech was perfect. If Biden continues on this path and if he gets the necessary cooperation from Democrats, he could tame capitalism and bring us closer to the humane economic model we find in countries that value humanity first. And if he accomplishes that with his method, I will be the first to say I was wrong about Biden. It was refreshing listening to <a href="https://egbertowillies.com/tag/matthew-dpwd/" target="_blank" title="">Matthew Dowd</a> as he assessed what the 2020 Census really means. When I saw the top line my first interpretation was positive. It was not that three blue states were losing seats but that some red states were becoming less red. Gerrymandering is real. At the same time, states like Texas could indeed try to engineer their two new districts to give it an easier likelihood that they would be Democratic. But as they dilute other areas, as they must, good candidates, good campaigns, and the reality of people needs can swing the pendulum as it already has in several Texas districts like the one won by <a href="https://egbertowillies.com/tag/lizzie-fletcher/" target="_blank" title="">Lizzie Fletcher</a>. "To me, Texas is the best the best view of where the country is headed," Matthew Dowd said. "As soon as Texas shifts, which is going to happen in the next election or two, to a purple state and then ultimately Texas will become a blue state because of the demographics and what's going on in the suburbs, it fundamentally changes the nature of the country's politics because the Republicans have guaranteed themselves or counted on those electoral votes." Then Dowd provides the appropriate rationale after pointing out that there is a lot of noise that comes out of the mainstream media. "23 million Americans were added in population from 2010 to 2020," Dowd pointed out. "More than 90% of those 23 million Americans that were added are non-white. It's going to be either the smallest or the first time whites have dropped in population in our country. And so, I take a different view of the census data. I don't think it's a net gain for the Republicans in this. They're going to lose a seat in West Virginia. They're going to lose a seat in New York. They're going to lose a seat in Illinois. That's net three down. That means they have to gain four more from the other states, and all of the population growth is among African-Americans, Asian voters, Latino voters, and people of mixed race. All of the population growth is of non-white voters and especially true in Texas." Now, if those of us on the left side of the ledger stop being a bit fearful and timid and become aggressive in pushing policies we know people want, we will activate those voters. As an example, here in Texas, I am appalled that I do not hear Democratic politicians saying, "Republicans are murdering Texans as they deny them care every Texas is paying for as they stubbornly refuse the Medicaid Expansion to the Affordable Care Act." Early tonight, I received an email from a source I did not recognize. It included a link to a video clip. After verifying it was a safe link, I clicked on it. "Ah, that guy," I told myself. "Why would he be sending me a video." It turns out Tiffany Cross and my commentaries were justifiably harsh after Brian Dunn implied that Daunte Wright was partially responsible for his death. I equated his comment to one that one would expect from the likes of Candace Owens. A few snippets are in the included video and this <a href="https://egbertowillies.com/2021/04/22/tiffany-cross-to-misguided-black-man-the-oppressed-adopting-the-talking-points-of-the-oppressor/" target="_blank">blog post</a>. <blockquote> Dunn first made the case that while the uproar over Floyd's murder was justified, Wright's wasn't because the frightened young kid ran. "I was taught by my father never to run because they will kill you," Brian Dunn said. "And the idea is that it does not make it the fault of the person getting shot, getting killed. … But at the same time, we have to understand the way these situations play out. It is frenetic energy on top of frenetic energy. And we have to teach our boys that any encounter with a police officer can quickly degenerate into a deadly encounter if they lose their cool if they do anything that is a provocative act." </blockquote> The statement irked Tiffany Cross. <blockquote> "I think that the practice of white supremacy is so deeply woven in this country," Cross said. "That you will have the oppressed adopt the talking points of the oppressor." </blockquote> I understand where Brian Dunn is coming from. In fact, I have told my daughter and young people of color how best to deal with police when they stop them or what to do if the police attempt to use them as target practice. Today she told an unfortunate truth. It is one where too many in the media are hard-pressed to articulate vociferously. After discussing Minority leader Kevin McCarthy sucking up to Donald Trump, Wallace made a few prescient statements. "This is the conversation that needs to be had." Nicolle Wallace said. "We covered this incorrectly. Fear of Trump was the excuse. For all of Mitch McConnell and Rob Portman and Kevin McCarthy and all these weenies who looked the other way when Casey Hunt and Leanne Caldwell and Garrett Haake were there with a camera saying, 'Do you believe with this outrageous thing that Donald Trump tweeted today and our frame was they must be afraid of our cameras because they're scared of Trump." Nicolle was not done. "We were wrong," Nicolle said. "They are Trump. And you are right. This story is no longer about Trump. It's what they, it's what Trump revealed the Republicans to be." The ThisWeek panel was discussing President Biden's economic proposals. One of them is to tax capital gains of millionaires when<a href="https://www.cnbc.com/2021/04/22/biden-to-propose-capital-gains-tax-hike-to-fund-education-and-child-care.html" target="_blank" title=""> people who work for a living are taxed, 39.6%</a>. Governor Christie, a spokesman for the rich, decided to use the standard Republican modus operandi, misinform, lie, and project. Christie claimed that doing that is tantamount to socialism because it is income redistribution. Why is he claiming that? Because he is simply lying, and <a href="https://egbertowillies.com/tag/heidi-heitkamp/" target="_blank">Heidi Heitkamp</a> called him out. Heidi pointed out that capital gains had never been taxed before. It is income no different from a worker responsible for paying the working person's taxes, unlike the preferential treatment of capital gains. What Christie is saying is tantamount to an employee getting a raise and saying they are not responsible for taxes on the raise because they already paid taxes on their previous wage level. Let's be clear. <a href="https://egbertowillies.com/tag/chris-christie/" target="_blank">Christie</a> committed all three of the standard techniques used by Republicans to confuse those who believe them, misinform, lie, and project. Christies socialism claim was nothing more than projection. A capital gains tax less than the working person's tax is socialism, as Republicans define it, getting money for doing nothing. The lie is that the gains have already been taxed. And the misinformation is that most Americans' retirements in the form of 401Ks etc., would be at risk. The reality is that <a href="https://www.fool.com/retirement/2017/06/19/does-the-average-american-have-a-401k.aspx" target="_blank" title="">most Americans are not invested in 401ks</a>. I am not a Heidi Heitkamp fan as I believe she is too moderate for the needs of America today. Dunn first made the case that while the uproar over Floyd's murder was justified, Wright's wasn't because the frightened young kid ran. "I was taught by my father never to run because they will kill you," Brian Dunn said. "And the idea is that it does not make it the fault of the person getting shot, getting killed. … But at the same time, we have to understand the way these situations play out. It is frenetic energy on top of frenetic energy. And we have to teach our boys that any encounter with a police officer can quickly degenerate into a deadly encounter if they lose their cool if they do anything that is a provocative act." Isn't the police officer the person who is trained and the one that should protect and value life? Who is the child? One should note that very few corporations pay the nominal tax rate anyway, Brady first erred with the presumptuous statement that big corporations are the job creators. The American people are the workers and job creators. Their buying creates demand in the market that is satisfied by others, including corporations. We must not cede that honor to corporations as it gives them undeserved political power. The congressman wants to absolve the corporation from their responsibility to <a href="https://egbertowillies.com/tag/american-jobs-plan/" target="_blank">fund infrastructure</a>. They continue to want not only corporate welfare from the government but the individual. When discussing these issues throughout the blogosphere, websites, and publications, we must tell the truth and frame the narrative correctly. The corporation’s dependence on infrastructure is great, and that dependency is existential for their well-being. They use more of it when one considers it is used to move their goods and services. Most importantly, their employees use it in the process of working for them. When someone pays gasoline taxes, it is a user fee that partially subsidizes the corporation they work for. Without the roads, rails, and otherwise, to get there, there is no corporation. Whenever the private sector talks about capital being available to build infrastructure instead of taxes to pay for it, understand what that means. It is a tax that goes to the wealthy investor. It is a wealth transfer engine from the middle-class to the rich. As an example, a toll road build with private capital taxes those who can afford to ride on it. The toll pays for the road, its maintenance, and another chunk goes to the investor. A tax instead invests all into the roads, and everyone has access. We have got to push back at plausible-sounding plutocratic narratives ad nauseam. And I specify the man's "race" because he is someone who understands what his community is going through day after day. Ali asked him what happens if Derek Chauvin gets off. The answer was what one would expect. People of color are so used to police officers getting off after murdering them is no longer a surprise. But he implied that had the verdict been an acquittal or a lesser charge, one would likely expect massive protest. But the man had a much more profound statement that could be extrapolated in so many areas. "Not enough people are out here defending people, so we do not have these incidents," the young man said. "I said earlier, you know. I've seen a lot of National Guard down here protecting these buildings. If they protected the people, you and I wouldn't be having this conversation." There is a lot that could read into that statement. But the overarching message is that our government, powered by certain interests, will invest in law and order and protect the rich and well-connected's capital. Suffice it to say. I was very impressed with this white guy that MSNBC correspondent Shaquille Brewster interviewed. He asked the guy what he was thinking after the Chauvin verdict. He said he was relieved. He said he was there to support black and brown people. "I have a lot of learning to do myself," the gentleman said. "And so for myself personally, this has been a wake-up call for the privilege I've had, and I haven't even realized it, and the difficulty for all black and brown people. So I'm thrilled that justice was served." Brewster was not satisfied with the answer. He prodded. He asked him what he was going to do with his newfound realization. "I want to find out. I don't know," the man said. "I actually Googled it today. What can a white person do to help Black Lives Matter? Just an open awareness to see that, you know, institutionally and systematically, I've got benefits that other people don't have." That was prescient. Not only did he show humility. The press conference was a disgrace. The White House reporters spent an inordinate amount of time questioning the president comments that he hoped the appropriate decision came down. Kristen Welker also implied that the president should condemn Representative Maxine Waters' comments about getting active and confrontational if an American did not see it fit to convict a police officer who murdered a black man for all the world to see. Do they not understand that peaceful or non-peaceful protests are both confrontational? Where was this questioning ad nauseam during the Trump administration, which is responsible for the deaths of over 500,000 Americans and exacerbation of a bold, in-your-face white supremacy in America? What did she say when asked about what should happen if <a href="http://egbertowillies.com/tag/derek-chauvin" target="_blank" title="">Derek Chauvin</a> is acquitted. “I’m going to fight with all of the people who stand for justice,” said Waters, who is Black. “We’ve got to get justice in this country, and we cannot allow these killings to continue. … We’ve got to stay on the street, and we’ve got to get more active, we’ve got to get more confrontational. We’ve got to make sure that they know that we mean business.” <div> There is nothing in that statement anyone should disagree with. Ask our Founding Fathers if that would not be their reaction as well. Well, Republicans think they are smelling a reason to attack. A recent Daily Kos <a href="https://www.dailykos.com/stories/2021/4/19/2026563/-Rep-Maxine-Waters-backed-the-fight-for-justice-in-Minnesota-Republicans-are-outraged" target="_blank">article</a> comes to the perfect conclusion. <blockquote> But Republicans are shouting about cases of property damage in the midst of protests against killings. While I do not always agree with <a href="http://egbertowillies.com/tag/bill-maher" target="_blank">Bill Maher</a>, his prose is usually from intellectual honesty. This particular "New Rules" segment was severely lacking in context. While, for the most part, his data is accurate, data does not exist in a vacuum, and without taking all factors into account, it can actually be no better than a lie. Bill treats the CDC directives that were on the cautionary side as lies if their caution was unwarranted. Really? If we are working from a position of not knowing, we err on the side of caution. And we inform the people of that as they did. He did get it right that the mainstream media has prostituted COVID to the point that in America even good news is spun as bad news or diluted with bad news. "And the media," Bill said. "Well, I think we all know if it bleeds, it leads. The more they can get you to stay inside and watch their panic porn, the higher the ratings." While that is true, ask any nurse and doctor who were fielding overflowing emergency rooms and ICUs if there was no reason to panic. Based on efficiency for the corporations with its inefficiency to serve humans for profit maximization, our private healthcare system was not designed to field not even a 1% in-hospital sick rate. After all, there are <a href="https://www.aha.org/statistics/fast-facts-us-hospitals" target="_blank">less than a million staffed hospital beds</a> in the U.S. Bill points out that just as many on the Right are severely misinformed, many on the Left are. He is correct. But when the wrong assumptions on the Right kill while those on the left adds a level of safety or are inconsequential, stating in the context he spoke about is deceiving. Bill's fatal mistake, in my opinion, was to compare the outcomes in New York versus Florida. The two states have completely different weather and population densities. It was irresponsible to assume that Governor DeSantis's policies were more successful than Governor Cuomo's. DeSantis' irresponsible disregard for his citizens was mitigated by factors completely out of his control, temperature, weather, geography, density, and a more responsible older population. I am sure the scientists will have other mitigating factors as well. "I have seen for myself how the original sin of slavery weaved white supremacy into our founding documents and principles," said Thomas-Greenfield. In addition to her remarks on white supremacy and its history in the U.S., Thomas-Greenfield told the activist organization that issues of “equity and justice” must be approached with “humility.”   Thomas-Greenfield also said the deaths of George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, and Ahmaud Arbery resulted from the nation's institutionalized white supremacy. "Of course, when we raise issues of equity and justice at the global scale, we have to approach them with humility," she said at a virtual conference. "We have to acknowledge that we are an imperfect union – and have been since the beginning – and every day we strive to make ourselves more perfect, and more just." </blockquote> Jen Psaki did not fall for the trap.  The reporter was very subtle in her attempt to create dissension. The reporter said that the ambassador was parroting the propaganda that China was spewing at the summit with Secretary of State Antony Blinken. Unfortunately, one cannot hide from reality. Should we deny the truth because it came from someone using it as a bludgeon? That is why the UN Ambassador Linda Thomas-Greenfield is talking about humility when dealing with other countries. America has its own sins as well. The final question from the reporter proves her shallowness, ineptitude, and lack of knowledge. "That's essentially the same lecture though that the Chinese Delegation gave Secretary Blinken in Alaska last month," the reporter said. "So does the President think our founding documents are racist?” Did she forget that the founding documents classified blacks as three-fifths of a person? Yes, the documents were racists. Whenever we discussed the murder of people of color (POC) by cops, we are told that they would not occur if they complied. Complying does not work for people of color. They still get shot and murdered. And as shown in this clip <a href="https://egbertowillies.com/2021/04/15/white-anti-mask-driver-flees-hits-cop-hanging-from-truck-w-hammer-in-minnesota-and-isnt-shot/" target="_blank">and others</a>, whether white people comply or not, they live. <a href="http://egbertowillies.com/tag/philando-castile" target="_blank" title="">Philando Castile</a> complied. The officer shot him dead. <a href="http://egbertowillies.com/tag/george-floyd" target="_blank">George Floyd</a>, a claustrophobic, begged for mercy. Officer Chauvin murdered him; <a href="http://egbertowillies.com/tag/daunte-wright" target="_blank">Daunte Wright</a>, a 20-year-old young man panic as he tried to drive off. Officer Kim Potter murdered him, shot him dead. There are reasons why people talk about defunding the police. It is not about having no police. It is about defunding what murders us. It is about some Americans funding what harms them, what murders them, what deprives them of their liberty and pursuit of happiness. Ironically, none of this is new. What is true is that it is now on video. The ubiquity of these tragic events makes it impossible to ignore them. So while it is said that the revolution will not be televised, the videos of the constant assault on the bodies and lives of POCs may change that moniker. Guess what? Too many fall into the belief that Americans are all polarized, mad, and furious at each other. Superficially, that is true. But when one spends the time to analyze why it is obvious. Turn on OANN, Fox News, and Newsmax. What do you see? There are these hacks who are scared. America has reached a tipping point that can allow a real change to occur that will make lives better for most. As such, it is essential to keep people at each other's throats, and they are running out of time with a dwindling population to turn into faux victims. The <a href="https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCcgg5oVHV3ktWzbkbc52urQ/join" target="_blank">PDR</a> listener asked the prescient questions. How can you communicate where the other person simply wants to be right. My answer is explained in the clip, but the breakdown, in short, is to ensure that they are "right." I gave an example of how I spoke to a conservative woman about <a href="http://egbertowillies.com/tag/medicare-for-all" target="_blank">Medicare for All</a>. I never used the word and just asked her to come up with solutions. Interestingly, her solutions looked a whole lot like Medicare for All. Most Americans are good. Most Americans are intelligent. We must talk to everyone from that premise. It is not easy. We must mobilize under this premise to effect change. The thing is, once we toughen our skin a bit, it is easy to accomplish. "If you run a company," Packnett said. "And you hire an outside contracting firm to come and help you solve problems. And they came in and did their job. And when they did their job, they didn't solve most of the problems. They didn't prevent the problems from happening. And, in fact, they caused new problems of their own. And they cause those problems incredibly severely against certain people who work for and with you or your neighbors, people you love. And then they came back to you at the end of that year and said, 'Pay us more money. And in fact, don't just pay us more money. Make sure the people that we cause the most harm to help pay the bill,' you would laugh us out of the room." That is exactly what POCs live through now. The system policies POCs more severely and extracts more out of these overpoliced people who further pay for their oppression. But the activist had an important point to add. "In this country that is build on a violent capitalism," Cunningham said. "That is most often defended by the very people who still tell us to back the blue. That would be a laughable premise. And yet, we continue to increase police budgets every single year." Cunningham then gave the stats that show how inept and inefficient the police are. She pointed out that only 46% of violent crimes are solved. Only 18% of property crimes are solved. The activist implied that we should not want to continue increasing investment in an optimized institution to suppress POCs. It had a personal effect on me. When one realizes that there is a force out there protected by law, the sense of vulnerability is seen as one that hunts us on a whim. <blockquote> According to the Associated Press. Windsor Police Officer Daniel Crocker radioed that he was pulling Nazario over because his vehicle lacked a license plate and had tinted windows. He also described Nazario’s one minute, low-speed drive to the parking lot as “eluding police.” This, to Crocker, justified calling the stop a “high-risk felony traffic stop.” Which justified calling for backup and approaching the car with gun drawn. Except that the temporary tag for Nazario’s recently purchased vehicle was clearly displayed in the rear window of the SUV. If Crocker had missed it initially, it seems impossible that he would have not seen it either during that “pursuit” conducted well below the speed limit. It’s also clearly visible as the car sits under the lights of the parking lot. By the time Crocker approached Nazario’s vehicle, he had to know that, if there ever had been any justification for the stop, that reason no longer applied. Crocker might have stepped up, explained that he had missed seeing the tag initially, and sent Nazario on his way with an apology. Instead, he was joined by a second officer, Joe Gutierrez, and together the two terrorized Lt. Nazario … while never actually filing any charges. </blockquote> We should all be sickened. One needed to do a double-take after listening to <a href="http://egbertowillies.com/tag/jake-tapper" target="_blank">Jake Tapper</a>'s soliloquy that put the entire Right-Wing implosion into context. Whether on the Left or the Right, anyone who listened to Tapper would have understood the historical context of the madness. Tapper first sets the stage. "At around 4:30 in the morning 160 years ago tomorrow, a treasonous South Carolina militia attacked the U.S. Government at Fort Sumter near Charleston, South Carolina, and the U.S. Civil War began," Jake Tapper said. "To this day, the deadliest war in American history. Four years of bloody battle and unfathomable viciousness ending only when General Robert E. Lee surrendered at Appomattox." Tapper made it clear that there was nothing noble about those who started the Civil war. In his narrative, he wanted it clear that those still waging the ideological battle are on the side of evil, for they fought to maintain a right to maim and enslave. "So, the conflict would not formally end for another 16 months in some parts of the country," Tapper continued. "And in the hearts and minds of too many of our fellow Americans, the war continued to wage, a war that was fought over whether or not states had the right to own black Americans to enslave them to rape them to maim them, and to kill them." Tapper points out the hypocrisy of building monuments and naming bases in the name of treasonous generals even as they were also incompetent. Worse, they were not named or honored in the Civil War days, but in the 20th century to in a glorification of traitors, an apparent inability to realize those on the side of evil justifiably lost the war. He singled out General Bragg, for which the base where the Special Forces train was named after. He called him a bumbling treasonous fool. Listen to the entire clip. Jake Tapper breaks it down well. After the reporter challenged President Joe Biden's bipartisanship, Psaki civilly told him that it was the media's responsibility to ask Republican politicians why they are going against their constituents' wishes. The reporter suggested that using polls was not relevant because they change. Former investment banker <a href="http://egbertowillies.com/tag/steven-rattner" target="_blank">Steven Rattner</a> appeared on Morning Joe and displayed some eye-popping charts. It is imperative that Americans understand these charts. A number that jumps out is how much the 1% and subsequently the 10% herded 35% of the wealth. That is 70% of the wealth created since the pandemic went to the top 10%. The next 40% of Americans got 26%. And of course, the bottom 50% got a total of 4% of the gains. That is inequality and disparity on steroids. The picture got much worse when one broke the numbers down based on race. Whites who make up about 60% of the population received 84% of the gains. Blacks, who are about 13% of the population, received 5% of the gains. Latino who make up 19% of the population received 2% of the gains. We continue to hear these statistics and fret about them. Later in the broadcast, one panelist said that the wealthy are also getting concerned and willing to pay more taxes. He also said that the rate of philanthropy was increasing. What is frustrating is, as usual, the ball is left in the hands of the wealthy. We make it a problem that they should solve. America needs a paradigm shift. America needs to remove the indoctrination about power and how it is wielded. Americans need to understand that our economic system favors the wealthy differently than they realize. Their wealth is the gross amount of your worth they refused to pay you for. But that is for another discussion. Ironically Professor Kelton shared some concerns with former Obama economist Larry Summers. Infusing the economy can eventually be inflationary. <blockquote> It’s easy to ramp up spending when there are millions of unemployed people who can be hired and plenty of domestic companies eager to supply the government with solar panels and electric vehicles. But what happens when it gets harder to find the idle things and people — construction workers, architects, machinery, raw materials and so on — needed to keep pace with an enormous revamp of our nation’s infrastructure? With the U.S. economy now improving, it would be irresponsible not to develop a rollout plan for those contingencies. </blockquote> If there is a large shortage of workers, wages will go up, a good thing. The problem is that a shortage of workers is a double edge sword. It will mean a shortage of products which also means the price of products and services will increase as well. While President Biden is paying for the infrastructure bill by taxing corporations and the rich, the fact that the marginal spending of the rich into the economy is likely to be unchanged, it provides no dampening effect to inflation. But we do want prosperity for those now making more money. But an economy not managed well could have inflation eat up much of that prosperity. Kelton points out several solutions to avoid the shortages that would occur with people having more money to spend. <blockquote> These nontax inflation offsets could include industrial policies, like much more aggressively increasing our domestic manufacturing capacity by steering investment back to U.S. shores, using even more “carrot” incentives like direct federal procurement, grants and loans, as well as more “sticks” like levying new taxes to discourage the offshoring of plants. Reforming trade policies is another option: Repealing tariffs would make it easier and cheaper for American businesses to buy supplies manufactured abroad and easier for consumers to spend more of their income on products made outside of our borders, draining off some domestic demand pressures. The Biden team could also consider loosening its legal-immigration policies, so that even once America nears full employment there would still be an adequate labor pool to meet the increased demand for workers. Putting aside the obvious climate benefits of tightening environmental regulations, banning fracking on federal lands and offshore drilling in federal waters could free up people and materials for other activities. Health care reform could have a role too. (Significantly lowering the Medicare eligibility age would sharply reduce aggregate spending in the health care industry, a major source of price pressures in the economy.) </blockquote> <blockquote> Over time, the Biden plan’s investments in our physical and human infrastructure will enhance our economy’s productive capacity, leaving us with a better educated and more productive work force, more efficient railways, less congested roadways, improved technologies and much else. But this can’t happen overnight. It will take years, and it might mean that we start to run out of available capacity as we go — especially if the House Progressive Caucus wins the addition of trillions more dollars. No one can predict exactly when, or across which industries, serious bottlenecks and other shortages might emerge. </blockquote> Kelton points out that while "Buy America" is well-intentioned, as our economy heats up, the policy is ill-advised as we can mitigate inflationary pressures by using the world as a heatsink giving international capacity. A prosperous America where people have a lot of money to spend helps the entire world. <blockquote> This “buy American” philosophy is well intentioned but could lead to counterproductive trouble, particularly since the president has promised that “no one making under $400,000 will see their federal taxes go up” — a pledge that takes raising taxes on the middle class, which has a higher marginal propensity to spend, off the table as a potential inflation offset. A Biden-led plan that is overly protectionist is a much greater inflation threat than a plan that isn’t paid for in the traditional deficit-neutral budgetary sense. This framework — based on the principles of Modern Monetary Theory — redefines fiscal responsibility by flipping the age-old question “How will you pay for it?” The real challenge is “How will you resource it?” </blockquote> The last four paragraphs of <a href="http://egbertowillies.com/tag/stephanie-kelton" target="_blank">Stephanie Kelton</a>'s article is the coup de grace. <blockquote> By focusing on how much revenue they think they can raise from a broad array of tax increases on the well-off, Democrats risk allowing the scope of their ambitions to be governed by the dated framework of fiscal responsibility in Washington and the political appetite for tax increases, rather than what is truly possible based on logistics in the real economy. The Bureau of Labor Statistics, the Federal Reserve, the Treasury Department and other agencies that track labor force participation, price increases and supply shortages can be tasked with developing a specific dashboard of blinkers and warnings to alert to problems. If Congress and the White House want to be responsible stewards of both society and the U.S. dollar’s value, then rather than focusing on taxation of the rich, they should prioritize and supply exactly what it would take, in terms of real resources, to electrify the nation’s power grid, repair every deficient bridge, give caretakers a living wage, upgrade our railways, and deliver clean drinking water and high-speed broadband to every home. How many people will it take to do all of that work? How much steel, concrete and fiber optic cable? How many tower cranes and other kinds of building equipment will be needed? The list goes on. These are the questions we should ask our leaders, and the ones they should be asking themselves — not “How will we pay for it?” </blockquote> We need to keep our eyes on what needs to be done as opposed to the false limitations. If there are enough people to do the work that needs to be done and an economy cannot connect the two, then the economic system is flawed. As we practice it, capitalism is flawed as it does nothing but transfer the wealth of many to the few. It is hard to understand why the mainstream media believe they have something to prove to Fox News or the Trump viewer. President Joe Biden is not perfect. But in his first two months, he has proven to be a competent president. That reality is clearly seen in the polls. Too often, however, we get mainstream reporters who are attempting to out-Fox News, Fox News. When they do it, unfortunately, it not only makes them look silly, they join the narrative from which to build the manufactured angst that can devolve into acts like the January 6th insurrection. It is great that the President has a very effective White House spokesperson in Jen Psaki, who continues to swat down otherwise good journalists, like pesky flies. It is hard to believe the question was serious. The reporter asked Jen Psaki if the president should have stayed out of commenting about the MLB moving the All-Star Game out of Georgia. Worse, she implied that the economic impact could be blamed on Joe Biden. The question is outright silly and tries to assign blame in all the wrong places. Georgia passed a law to suppress votes. Pressure from activists forced the private sector, the free market, to act accordingly. And they acted. <a href="http://egbertowillies.com/tag/jen-psaki" target="_blank" title="">Jen Psaki</a> made sure to point all of that out as she once again castigates Georgia's voter suppression law. By now, it should be clear to reporters that this president, through his press secretary, is not scared to move in a manner that most Americans agree with. The press is getting the many briefings one should expect from the presidency. Unfortunately, they are not living up to their job. A recent <a href="https://egbertowillies.com/2021/03/26/conservative-columnist-excoriates-the-irresponsibility-of-the-mainstream-media-at-the-biden-press-conference/" target="_blank" title="">admonition by Jennifer Rubin</a> was very well deserved. "We need to be asking the president to do what he promised, which is to make child care and investing in women a priority," Katie Porter said. "That's what he promised, and now he needs to deliver. What we've seen in part one of this infrastructure package which they're calling the jobs package, a title that I don't like, is a focus on frankly jobs that are predominantly male. And the good-paying jobs in that package are predominantly male, construction, engineering, transit, all of those jobs. What happened to the investment in child care? What happened to the investment in paid family leave? What happened to those things? They're coming in part two, which they're calling The Family's Plan." The Congresswoman then expresses the reason for her angst. "If women don't have child care, parents don't have child care," Porter continued. "They can't go to work just as much as a worker who can't go to work if they don't have a road. So, I think part of it is to really understand that this is a little different than repairing the roads. This is something we have never done well in the United States. This is the major difference when you look at our economy and the economy of other countries around the world. This is the single major place the United States has never delivered for the American people, and that's how we need to talk about it. Child care is not something we do for parents. It's not something we do for women. It is not something we do for children. It's something we do for our economy just as much as investing in broadband or investing in bridges or investing in engineering or manufacturing. That's what child care is. So for the goal here isn't to return to quote, normal. The goal here is to make the investment that is 50 or 60 years overdue in our economy, which means making sure that everyone, regardless of whether they're a parent, regardless of whether they're a man or woman, can go to work, work hard, thrive, and succeed." The Congresswoman had much more to say in the clip. She hit the nail on the head, and I hope the administration is listening.
