Having a break in the weather between storms, I pedaled over to Dellinger’s Pond for a look-see. Since I haven’t reported from the pond in quite a while, I figure it’s time.
The Daily Bucket is a nature refuge. We amicably discuss animals, weather, climate, soil, plants, waters and note life’s patterns.
We invite you to note what you are seeing around you in your own part of the world, and to share your observations in the comments below.
Each note is a record that we can refer to in the future as we try to understand the phenological patterns that are quietly unwinding around us. To have the Daily Bucket in your Activity Stream, visit Backyard Science’s profile page and click on Follow.
With very overcast skies, no wind, and temperature at 39f, I arrived at the pond after waiting through the morning for a couple of hours for either the temperature to rise further or the overcast to break. Neither much seemed promising, but by the time I got to the pond it did appear that at least a “sucker hole” was showing.
Compare with my last from the pond, back in November:
Gazing all the way down to the other end of the pond through my camera lens, there’s a dead pine that often has something, bird-wise, in it. Well, well, well.
The trees around the highway side of the pond had me worried that I wouldn’t be able to see the hawk at any closer vantage point. But a gap opened and I got the one shot.
Looking over the pond for the past several months, showing seasonal transition.
Most memorable photographs from the pond this year (but don’t forget, there’s still some days left in 2022, heh heh):
Kinda nice to have a place like this in my “backyard”, as it were.
Now It's Your Turn.
What have you noted happening in your area or travels? As usual post your observations as well as their general location in the comments.
Thank you.
