Last January my adult daughter, who lived with me then, tested positive for COVID, and so I had to get tested, and was positive.
I had a case but had no symptoms. I know exactly how lucky I was.
I have taken my vaccine and boosters, I got the latest Pfizer/Biontech bivalent booster in October 2022. I don’t go out of my house except twice a month and always wear a mask.
Wednesday I went to the local clinic to see my therapist in person for the first time. Everyone was masked, because at Kaiser Permanente NW (OR & WA) they still take COVID seriously.
Friday morning I woke up hacking and coughing up mucus, sore throat, and felt terrible. I thought it was just a cold, but over the past two days, my symptoms got worse. Body aches, fever, chills, feeling like I can’t get a full breath, like my lungs wouldn’t expand fully.
So this morning, I called the advice nurse line, they had me speak with a doctor. The doctor advised me to get a COVID test and scheduled me for 9 am Monday. But I remembered my daughter (who doesn’t live with me anymore) might still have a test. She did and dropped it off not long ago, outside in my clear crate on my porch for Amazon & UPS deliveries.
I just took the test a few minutes ago and it didn’t take even one minute for the markers on the test kit to show I was positive, even though you have to wait 15 mins for sure that the reading is correct.
This damned virus is not gone, and it’s never going to be gone. Our world missed the chance to lock it down and quarantine it out of existence in early 2020, mostly because of worthless pieces of shit leadership in countries around the world, and here at home the lackwit former president and his cabal telling the nation and world it was “just a hoax”.
THREE short weeks of global quarantine would have been enough to stop this virus in it’s tracks. But that was too much to ask, apparently.
Unlike last January, I’m having symptoms and they are not good. I hope that this is as bad as it gets and that I won’t end up in a hospital bed or on a vent. But you never know.
Be vigilant, my friends, even doing all the right things can result in a COVID infection. If you catch what seems to be a cold, be watchful, and contact your doctor if you even think it might be COVID.
