Granted, there is no love lost between us and Liz Cheney, who is after all a Republican and votes for the conservative agenda. But her opening statement at the Jan 6 hearing last night, and her methodical dissection of the case against trump and republicans, is getting a lot of praise from all quarters (except of course the right-wing gaslighting machine).
First, some highlights -
Trump summoned the mob, assembled the mob and lit the flame of this attack.
Confessions to criminality -
Eloquence + patriotism -
The reactions.
Methodical -
Purpose and meaning -
Truth -
Courage -
Country over party -
It was a powerful start, that hopefully will keep viewers engaged over the next 2 weeks.
Yes, Cheney and Kinzinger are republicans, but they are doing the country a big favor. Imagine if they had joined the gaslighting republican chorus instead of the Jan 6 committee.
Political courage -
We can disagree, but we can also agree when the time is right.
The schedule -
Let’s hope that Steve Schmidt’s optimism comes true. Let’s give it our best effort. Let’s encourage others to watch and read about these hearings. Let’s spread the truth and let’s help voters to get more Democrats elected.
This diary focuses on Cheney’s role yesterday, but we all know that this was a team effort by the Jan 6 committee and their staff. The first day’s presentations were spearheaded by Cheney and Chairman Thompson. Others will take center stage in the next few hearings.
Yes, there is a lot to dislike about Liz Cheney and her kind. But she is taking a principled stand. Her stand and her eloquence is helpful to us Democrats and to the nation. Would we rather have her on our side on this issue or would be be better off if she had joined the other side?
Liz Cheney or no Liz Cheney, we have to take advantage of whatever opportunities come our way and keep working on the future of the Democratic party and of the nation.
