“Tonight’s the Night” sounds sleazy when Rod Stewart sings it. Janet Jackson turns it into a heartfelt love song.
Possibly part of my love of folk music comes from the fact that in my youth, it was the only place I could find women singing love songs about women. Here’s Dylan’s “Love Minus Zero” the way it was meant to be heard — ie, sung by Joan Baez:
