Good evening, kibitzers. I hope you’ve enjoyed your Labor Day. I’m a big believer in taking holidays off (and I mean off), so I made sure to get everything done so I could just enjoy today. And by today, I mean tomorrow, because I’m writing this diary the night before (you know, so I can take tomorrow off).
I don’t know what all I’m going to do for Labor Day, but hopefully not too much. As I type, the BF is on his way down, and I know we’re going to sleep in. Then, we’re planning to drive to Galveston. I made a noon reservation for Gaido’s Seafood Restaurant, which I’m very much looking forward to (I really enjoyed it the last time I went). I’m not sure what else we’ll do in Galveston. I’m not much of a beach person, but I have a feeling I’ll end up on a beach, if the weather is halfway decent (I’m seeing scattered thunderstorms in the forecast). I guess I’ll update before this diary publishes about what we did. Hopefully I’ll have some food porn, at the very least.
What I would really like to do for Labor Day is go to a state park and do something outdoorsy. But with temps in the 90s this time of year, that’s not really very feasible. So in lieu of going to a scenic park, I think I’ll take a page from nomandates’ playbook and post some pretty pics of a few of my favorite outdoor spots in Texas...plus a couple of outdoor spots that I haven’t been to yet but are on my to-visit list.
As always, it’s an open thread. See you in the comments below.

(Yes, I have seen that spider...as I looked up from my phone and almost ran face-first into its web.)
If you don’t get motion sickness, this guy is riding his bike down my favorite trail at Lake Houston Wilderness Park:

Atlanta State Park is on the to-visit list. When it cools down, I’d like to plan a weekend trip.

Photo of a glorious sunset over Wright Patman Lake in the Atlanta State Park in Atlanta, Texas. Did you know that the lake was originally known as the Texarkana Reservoir but was renamed after Congressman Wright Patman in the late 1970s. @TPWDnews 📸 by Theresa Davis pic.twitter.com/voIczOLw5K— Texas Forest Trail (@etxtraveler) June 19, 2021

Update: It was a long day. We did get a nice lunch at Gaido’s, and we took a (very short) walk on the beach. We both got the almond-crusted mahi mahi with lump crab meat, and we shared some calamari. So good!
