Now, Mo Brooks says that the rioters and insurrectionists of Jan 6th were “fools.”
The mob of pro-Trump supporters who attacked the U.S. Capitol on January 6 were “fools” who wrecked efforts by Republicans in Congress to debate baseless allegations of “voter fraud and election theft,” said U.S. Rep. Mo Brooks who is now running for a Senate seat.
This was the same mob he earlier called “patriots.”
But it gets better. Seems that the reasons those former patriots are fools is as follows:
“They did more to hurt the Republican Party and our efforts for honest and accurate elections than anybody could have, even those who would’ve followed a script written by the Democratic Party,” Brooks said Friday during a conversation with AL.com ahead of a “Stand Up Alabama” rally at 4 p.m. today in Spanish Fort where he will be the keynote speaker.
Emphasis is my doing.
Never mind that Mo Brooks is part of Trump’s Big Lie about the election. You know the one about there being widespread election fraud that cost Trump the election? The one where Trump lost 62 court cases challenging various state election results. That is because there is no evidence of election fraud.
But you see there was going to be a DEBATE on the floor of the U.S. House and Senate about this very same non-issue on Jan 6th. Even though Jan 6th was scheduled to be the routine process of counting the electoral votes that had already been certified by all the states. There was not to be any damn debating of the election results. But Mo Brooks does not see it that way.
“We were going to have a debate on the House and Senate floors about voter fraud and election theft and that message, those facts, did not get out through the news media,” he said. “The news media was absorbed by the attack on the United States Capitol.” Brooks added, “So that whole day we were working months toward was just blown to pieces by those fools who attacked the United States Capitol.”

The damn Media again. Didn’t do their job of focusing on the real issues of “voter fraud and election theft.” Oh no. The Media had to focus instead on all that rioting and blood being spilt on the Capitol Steps!
But wait a second! Didn’t Trump just give an interview to Leni Riefenstahl on Fox about there being nothing but love and hugs from his supporters on Jan 6th?
Former President Donald Trump on Thursday night presented a sunny view of the Jan. 6 siege of the U.S. Capitol by his supporters, an event that left five people dead and led to Trump's second impeachment trial for fomenting an insurrection. "It was zero threat, right from the start, it was zero threat," Trump told Fox News host Laura Ingraham. "Look, they went in. They shouldn't have done it. Some of them went in and they're hugging and kissing the police and the guards. You know, they had great relationships. A lot of the people were waved in, and then they walked in and they walked out. ... They're persecuting a lot of those people. And some of them should be — some things should happen to them," he conceded, adding that, in his opinion, far-left anti-fascists are getting off easy in comparison.

And when one of those damn reporters in the interview brought up this most recent lie from Trump, guess what Mo did?
“I am not going to specifically agree or disagree,” Brooks said, in reaction to Trump’s comments. “Everybody who engages in violence, regardless of political persuasions, ought to be prosecuted in order to minimize the riots, the vandalism and the arson that these criminals inflict under the guise of protest. It is a First Amendment right, Freedom of Speech, to protest. It’s a First Amendment right to petition your government for redress of grievances. But that line is crossed when you engage in violent conduct. Those people engaged in violent conduct, who abuse their First Amendment rights, should be prosecuted across the board.”
Brave, brave Sir Mo. Just like Brave Sir Robin from Monty Python fame. It sounds and looks similar to this “interview” about pedophile Roy Moore of Alabama running for that special election.

So is sure looks like Mo Brooks is throwing the insurrectionists under the bus, but given how he didn’t want to answer any question regarding the Insurrectionist-in-Chief and Jan 6th, I suspect we will see a lot more of Brook’s workout routine of fleeing from reporters.
Oh, and Mo Brooks really didn’t appreciate how the interview went either.

To be honest, I don’t think this will hurt in Alabama. It should though. Alabama is a Republican state, and most Republicans think the election was a fraud and Biden is an illegitmate president. And Republican voters really don’t think the Jan 6th was that big a deal. But throwing the Trump supporters who showed up to — cough, gag, hack — “defend democracy” under the bus should make some in Alabama a bit angry with Mo Brooks.
But they are fools, so they probably don’t read newspapers.
