This happened yesterday:
Perkins already has laid out on what he’s running on against U.S. Senator Bill Cassidy (R. LA):
The convergence of COVID-19, coupled with the civil unrest that ensued following the police-involved death of George Floyd, was part of the tipping point that led Shreveport Mayor Adrian Perkins’ decision to run for U.S. Senate.
“This was not my plan a couple of months ago at all,” Perkins told The Times during a Friday afternoon interview. "But the moment started to call for me to do this because Louisiana and our country overall, we’re at a crossroads. We’re dealing with a virus that is killing us and we’re dealing with the economic fallout from that. We’re dealing with civil unrest in our streets and it’s just not the time for us to be playing political games in D.C. It’s literally making us sick.”
A West Point graduate who served both in Iraq and Afghanistan, Perkins added that he’s stepping up the same way he stepped up after 9/11 when he went to serve in the military.
