That is what happens when you tie yourself to Trump. Everything Trump touches dies, and, right now, it appears that might be what happens to Susan Collins’ Senate career this November.
Bangor Daily News: New poll shows Sara Gideon leading Susan Collins by 9 points
Did you take a look at the new poll on the US Senate race I just sent? It shows US Sen. Susan Collins losing 51%-42% to House Speaker Sara Gideon!
….
In March we saw a poll that showed her down 4 points. Two months later, she is now down 9.
….
If I were on Team Collins what I would find most concerning is that Gideon is winning by 20+ points among women and seven points among independents, usually her backstop.
Poll Results PDF: Maine Poll
Sara Gideon is the likely opponent for Susan Collins on November 3, her primary opponent Betsy Sweet is far behind her in fundraising and polling. In this particular poll Sara Gideon beats her primary opponent Betsy Sweet 64% to 17% with Democratic voters (19% undecided.)
What is driving this strong Gideon lead over Collins? Well, for starters, Collins is underwater in her approval from state voters:
Collins is viewed favorably by 45% of Maine voters, unfavorably by 52%. In contrast, Gideon is viewed favorably by 54% of Maine voters, unfavorably by only 37%.
Also, the two issues tested in this survey, The Green New Deal and Medicare For All, tested positive with Maine voters, with more stating that the candidate who supported these measures would be more likely to gain that person’s support vs. less likely.
A plurality of 45% stated that support of the “Green New Deal” made them more likely to vote for that candidate, 35% stated it made it less likely, to 21% they were either unsure or it would make no difference.
Likewise, Medicare For All saw support from voters, in this case majority support:
56% of voters stated that support for Medicare For All would make it more likely that they would support that candidate, 37% stated it would make it less likely, 7% were either unsure or it would not make a difference.
Collins actively worked to destroy pandemic preparedness, calling pandemic funding a “nonstarter” and single-handedly removed 870 Million Dollars for pandemic preparedness from the budget.
