It might be all about publicity stunts, but isn’t that the M.O. of Individual-1, even as the GOP is about suppressing primary votes for Republicans by cancelling elections. Such a media event could be a one-off, but would be a ratings bonanza for smaller operations like OANN or even the usual suspects.
President Trump on Monday indicated he would not be willing to debate the Republicans seeking to run against him in a primary for the party’s 2020 nomination.

“They’re all at less than 1 percent. I guess it’s a publicity stunt,” Trump told reporters as he left the White House for North Carolina.
“To be honest, I’m not looking to give them any credibility,” he added.
Former Rep. Joe Walsh (Ill.), former Rep. Mark Sanford (S.C.) and former Massachusetts Gov. Bill Weld have each announced campaigns against Trump.
The Arizona Republican Party earlier Monday canceled its 2020 presidential primary contest, joining the GOP in South Carolina and Kansas. Nevada may follow suit as the Republican Party seeks to clear Trump's path to reelection.

“I’m thrilled about Joe Walsh and Mark Sanford getting in, I think it’s terrific,” Bill Weld told anchor Chuck Todd. “We’d have a more robust conversation and who knows, the networks might even cover Republican primary debates. They can ill-afford to say cover only Democrats.”
Weld also said he hopes more candidates join the 2020 Republican primary. “It can only contribute to more robust dialogue and that will be good for the country. We need to assemble rational people.”
