Run as a WOMAN in a "good ol' boy" RED southern county?
... where Hillary lost by 29 points??
... and for a seat NO Democrat has run since 1978 and HE lost???
- oh YEAH!
That's my reality, but the thing is I AM running a competitive race AND we have a full slate of Democrats for every state and federal office for the first time in 40 years - how did that happen?!
Three years ago I was an unaffiliated voter, but in 2016 I joined the Democratic party to vote in the Presidential Primary - within one year I was elected State Committeewoman and appointed a Vice Chair of the Florida Democratic Party.
As a former administrator and small business owner I was bringing political awareness to red SWFL: training from the FDP, hiring a political consultant to address potential candidates, encouraging caucuses, and raising money to encourage candidates to run - I didn't know I was looking for me.
When i admitted to other party officials I was thinking of running, I was told: "it's too hard, too expensive, you're not going to win, we can't help you" but it just made me more determined. I filed in October to run for FL State Representative / House District 106.
At the time, we had 2 other Democrats running for Congress - by May we had a full slate - mostly first time politicians but so qualified, with impressive professional careers - two are scientists and female: Annisa Karim and Jennifer Boddicker, who with a woman physician Parisima Taeb from a neighboring county, have formed a state wide organization of Candidates 4 Science which I was asked to join, even though I was an English major, and have, because I believe in science and because our environment in FL is so catastrophic we've gotten national attention.
The FDP has hired field representatives to help and last week they provided hours of training from amazing people. I've personally gotten 13 statewide endorsements and 2 regional endorsements and am running neck and neck with a 93% NRA rated, Koch funded opponent who I have outraised in a total of the last five reporting periods. Last week I got 46% in a straw poll which gives me some bragging rights and 84 days to change that to a majority in November.
So trust me when I say SWFL is fighting back to flip our red county BLUE - maybe you'd like to help?!
