Meet the freshman class of the 116th United States Congress. The class photograph outside the US Capitol, shown above, was taken on November 14. A few members, whose races were not called, were not part of the group at the time.
The above picture includes both Democrats and Republicans and both House and Senate freshman members (I wish there was a substitute word for freshman that was gender neutral). The picture is better seen in full screen mode; a higher resolution picture can be seen here. An interesting exercise would be to name each member in the photograph.
Here are some videos of the eclectic and fabulous looking group as they gathered for the class photograph, many of whom spent months working in the trenches, fighting for every vote, to bring us this historic win.
Here is a breakdown of the new House members. My counts may be slightly off. Note that I included the two new Democratic members of PA-5 and PA-7 even though they will serve as member-elect for the remaining term of the 115th Congress, replacing retiring members. The wiki page en.wikipedia.org/… has more info on individual members.
Note the stark difference in gender and race of the members between the two parties!
