A Kentucky legislator and registered nurse has had enough of Republican men pushing laws to make women’s medical decisions for them and tell doctors how to do their jobs. Democratic state Rep. Mary Lou Marzian has filed a bill that would:
… require all medical and nursing schools established and assisted financially by the Commonwealth of Kentucky to cease all training of any health care providers and the provision of any health care services; require all medical and nursing schools to refer citizens who are requesting advice or health care services to their state representative or state senator
Marzian, who in 2016 introduced a bill calling for erectile dysfunction drugs like Viagra to be restricted just as Republican bills would restrict abortion, is not holding back:
For example, she said, state Rep. Joe Fischer, R-Fort Thomas, is sponsoring a bill this session to require doctors to provide women with a written medical description of images from a required ultrasound before they are allowed to have an abortion.
“It’s obvious that our legislators think that they know more about women’s health than women and their physicians do, so why bother training medical professionals anymore?” Marzian asked. “Let’s just have everyone consult their lawmakers when they get sick. Lawmakers are clearly the ones who know best.”
Why would any Republican vote against this? She’s just suggesting directly what they keep trying to put into law sneakily.
