In the first 19 days since Joe Biden took office about 26.7 million Covid-19 vaccinations have taken place. Altogether, more than 32.9 million Americans had received at least one shot of vaccine as of yesterday, that is 9.9% of the total population and 12.5% of those old enough to be eligible.
Between December 11 when the first vaccine was approved by the FDA and January 20, only 16.5 million doses were administered.
Alaska has led the way among the states with 15% of its total population vaccinated. Kansas and Missouri are showing the lowest rate at 8%. Reportedly, 3% of all Americans have received both shots of either the Moderna or Pfizer/BioNTech vaccines.
It is understandable that those who have not been vaccinated and can not book an appointment are frustrated. Both Pfizer and Moderna will have to speed up production to meet their goals of producing 100 million doses each by the end of March. Those 200 million shots will be enough to vaccinate about 37% of American adults. More vaccines and doses are on the way.

Pfizer announced it will supply 200 million doses of its COVID-19 vaccine for the U.S. by the end of May and is aiming to ship 2 billion doses globally this year. The vaccine is over 90% effective according to clinical trials conducted in 2020, but more testing needs to be done to see how well it protects against the new variants. Dr. Phil Dormitzer, who helped develop the vaccine as vice president and chief scientific officer of viral vaccines at Pfizer, joins CBSN to discuss.

If the (Johnson and Johnson) vaccine is approved, it will become the third Covid-19 vaccine available in the United States. The New York Times report that Johnson & Johnson expects to have about seven million doses ready for distribution by March, and about 30 million by early April.

(States have 72 hours to report vaccine data, so data published by the CDC may be delayed – and may not necessarily mean all doses were given on the day reported.)

Here is today’s interview with CEO of Johnson and Johnson. J&J’s is pledged to provide 100 million of its single dose vaccine to the US by May 31 if it is approved by the FDA.
Walgreens and other pharmacy chains will start vaccinating a limited number of people Friday. CVS will accept appointments beginning Thursday and will also begin injections Friday. Other chains that are receive some vaccine doses include:
On Tuesday, the Biden administration said it would also start shipping vaccines to community health centers next week — part of its strategy to reach communities of color and low-income families who may not have a grocery store or drugstore nearby or may have other barriers to access, such as lack of transportation.
Last month, a British biotech breakthrough signaled the possibility of turning injected vaccines into tablets as clinical trials in monkeys showed the oral vaccine to be highly effective in immunizing them from the virus. Sussex-based IoBio and California’s Immunity Bio are applying for regulatory approval to run tests in Britain as clinical trials of the pill began on Americans in January.

Startling documents released Monday point to heavy-handed interference by top Trump administration officials last summer to downplay the severity of the COVID-19 pandemic, through suppressed testing results and altered guidance from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention on reopening businesses and schools.
www.msn.com/...Early findings from the U.K.’s vaccination program, due to be released within days, (Pfizer/BioNTech) show that the first dose reduced the symptomatic infection risk among patients by 65% in younger adults and 64% in over-80s, a person familiar with the matter said.
The data, first reported by The Sun newspaper, showed that two doses of the Pfizer vaccine saw protection rise to between 79% and 84%, depending on age. The AstraZeneca vaccine offers similar protection, the newspaper said.
