Last year I became the poster child for "every vote counts".
Nice to be noticed and “retweeted” by Hillary Clinton yesterday. Yes, every vote counts now more than ever. Your vote could be that one vote to decide an election today. There is power in your one vote. When I lost our election by one vote, we also lost the balance of power in the Virginia House of Delegates. Imagine that happening at the federal level: your one vote could decide the balance of power in the United States Congress.
We have great candidates running across the country right now but they can’t make change happen alone. Change only happens when voters do their part and get involved. I write this because I rode this wave of activism and it lifted me up almost over the finish line in my 2017 race in Virginia. Our wave wasn’t about money or mailers or flashy TV ads. It was about grass-roots enthusiasm and the hard work of volunteers. The wave was about us, all of us rising up together in unison. I rode that wave as far as I could go but in the end it tossed me and pulled me under and I did not win the drawing of lots. But I am still inspired by our movement and I will run again for the Virginia House in 2019 and this time I know our blue wave will carry me through.
