I have a lot of thoughts about the high school sexual assault reports that have come to light about Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh. However, I had to notice this letter of 65 women presented by Sen. Chuck Grassley, calling Kavanaugh someone who always “treated women with respect.”
Brett attended Georgetown Prep, an all-boys high school in Rockville, Maryland. He was an outstanding student and athlete with a wide circle of friends. Almost all of us attended all-girls high schools in the area.
THESE WOMEN DIDN’T EVEN GO TO THE SAME SCHOOL AS HIM!
I went to an all-girls’ high school myself and we had the similar set up of some all-boys schools in the area. While interaction is encouraged, it is in no way comparable to the amount of time that classmates spend with one another over the course of four years. Spending eight hours together five days a week for nine months a year for four years is vastly different than knowing someone because they went to your brother school.
Compare this letter to the number of women who have shared a lot of time in the classroom with Kavanaugh as an adult. Only three female Yale Law School classmates signed onto a letter supporting Kavanaugh earlier this year.
This letter from Grassley is complete bullshit that is a distraction and completely unhelpful. I don’t care if someone that went to their dances and sports meets as a high schooler didn’t rape 65 women. It has nothing to do with the fitness of Kavanaugh as a Supreme Court Justice, which is clearly nonexistent with all the lying, his use of “pro-life” talking points, and the fact that he was nominated by an unindicted co-conspirator.
