While officials in New York City are feverishly working to ensure public safety and figure out the details of a Monday morning explosion in the subway near the Port Authority bus terminal, you’d think that the leader of the country would be seeking information and making sure first responders have the resources they need. But, in case anyone has forgotten (and really, how could we?), Donald Trump is the current leader in residence at the White House. A reality show star and megalomaniac obsessed with his image, Trump spent the morning tweeting about himself, naturally.
That’s right. Trump could care less about making sure folks in New York City are safe. Nor is he worried about understanding what happened and what our country needs to do about terrorism. In fact, he’ll probably be tweeting later today about the government conspiracy against him and the tattered reputation of the FBI—the very agency that will be working in partnership with the NYPD to look into the suspect and his motivations. The worst part is that New York City is Trump’s hometown. He couldn’t even be bothered to think beyond his own reputation for two seconds to send well-wishes to the people of his very own city. But, after all we’ve seen of Trump as a politician in the last two years, is anyone really surprised?
Lest the American people worry about what Trump spends his days doing, according to the New York Times article that Trump is responding to, he’s doing all sorts of important things in his days as president, like watching 4 (sometimes up to 8) hours a day of cable news (mostly Fox) and drinking a dozen Diet Cokes in a day. He’s certainly not making America great again. But we never thought he would. He is, however, showing us exactly what he cares about—Donald J. Trump and nothing and no one else.
