Are you fed up with your political leaders? Do you want to make it perfectly clear where you stand? You're in luck: Many members of Congress are holding town hall meetings and other constituent events in the next few weeks, and those events are the best way for Americans to convey their concerns to the leaders that are supposed to represent them.
Thanks to the Town Hall Project, here is a list of upcoming constituent events for your House and Senate members. It's being updated all the time, so if your congressperson is seemingly in hiding right now, don't give up.
• Want to give Arizona Republican Jeff Flake a piece of your mind? He's set aside meeting time with constituents next Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday.
• Montana Democrat Jon Tester will be holding a Wednesday town hall at the Bozeman Public Library. He probably would like to hear about Trump's various nominations and executive orders.
• Nebraska Republican Deb Fischer will be holding two events on Monday, Feb. 13. Nebraska Democrats, make sure she represents all of Nebraska, not just her Republican friends.
• Reliable Trump toady John Cornyn of Texas holds a coffee event every Thursday in his D.C. office. Which is quite helpful, because I know a lot of folks in D.C. have things they'd like to say to him right now!
• Virginia Republican Bob Goodlatte also really needs to hear from his constituents. You're in luck, Virginians, because he's got his next event planned for next Tuesday. He’s the Republican who let House Republican staffers secretly help draft Trump’s anti-Muslim travel ban—while they hid that they were doing it from congressional leaders.
Go, have fun, make your voices heard. Our House and Senate members are supposed to represent their constituents, not their parties. They can't do that if they don't know where America stands. And these are small events, much more comfortable than an airport or the pavement in front of Trump's non-divested hotel-slash-constitutional-crisis. So your voice will be heard, and you can make an impact.
Also, keep in mind that Donald Trump his very own self will be vacationing in Palm Beach, FL, at his Mar-a-Lago resort this weekend from Friday to Sunday. He is very, very tired after being in the White House for two whole weeks and so can't possibly muster the stamina to meet with you, but that doesn't mean you can't make your voices heard outside the gates. Palm Beach residents who have been attending airport protests, do you have any signs that you are especially proud of and would like to show him? Trump doesn't spend much time in airports, but he spends a lot of time at Mar-a-Lago. You're more likely to get his attention there.
It's time to show up, America. Go.
