This is breaking, but something in Durham County has gone wrong this morning. This is the bluest county in the state and the computers don’t seem to be working properly. Some folks being turned away from the polling locations this morning in Durham. They’ve gone to pen and paper check-in only.

There is apparently some kind of county-wide technical problem that has necessitated reverting to pen and paper. Ã°ÂÂÂ

The State Board of Elections has advised Durham County officials to use paper poll books throughout the day after at least five precincts had technical issues with computer check-ins.

Elections board spokesman Patrick Gannon said in an email Tuesday that the board made the decision “out of an abundance of caution.” Gannon said voting wasn’t interrupted.

The change affects check-in only. The county already uses paper ballots.

Durham County officials had warned on Twitter that wait times may increase because the electronic check-in is faster than the manual one.

Note: Sorry for the quick in and out. I signed up to drive folks to the polls but there are so many drivers this morning and not enough voters needing us yet. I’m now out canvassing!

Extremely aggressive Republican poll watchers...this is from a friend.

Voter suppression is real. Chief BOE judge (Republican) at my site chased a voter off this morning claiming he was trying to vote as someone else (voter says he wasn't), is openly talking about his support for Republican candidates inside the polling place in front of voters, and claims a campaigner "assaulted" voters when she came in to use the restroom (not true).

Everything seems to be under control now. The voter rolls are being accessed via paper instead of computer. All voting in this county is done by paper ballot already.

My alarm this morning when I posted this was that multiple people were being turned away from voting because they couldn’t be found in the computerized voter check-in system. I was told there were 5 just at the precinct I was at. Multiply that out by each precinct in the county and that’s a lot of people. This is a heavily Democratic county with lots of AA. I’m hoping that those that didn’t get to vote earlier will come back and stand in the line again to vote.

Get out and vote folks!

Precinct 31 in Durham has run out of the Ã¢ÂÂIntent to VoteÃ¢ÂÂ forms. This has to be signed before voting. Unclear why this happened. #NCPOL
