Jon Ossoff exceeded expectations in last week’s Georgia special House election. How? Massive grassroots engagement and contributions helped, of course, but Ossoff also dedicated a lot of the money he raised to a giant field operation:
Ossoff’s team spent nearly $2 million on its field efforts for last week's primary, including paying for a Lyft code in the district so that voters without a ride could get to the polls on Election Day. [...]
By the end of the primary, Ossoff’s team had recruited nearly 10,000 unique volunteers and hired 100 field staff. Since February, field staff knocked on more than 250,000 doors. With the Democratic Party coalescing early behind Ossoff, the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee trained and built up much of his field team. The campaign’s goal is to hire dozens more field staff by the time of the runoff.
In a Daily Kos diary on Friday, Ossoff’s campaign manager pledged that:
We are going to expand our precinct captain program so that we have a captain in each of the 209 precincts — a person who lives in that precinct, and who can talk to and mobilize their immediate friends and neighbors. We are going to continue to hold house parties that expand our contact universe to listen to voters — including Independents, and Republicans who are not happy with their party’s candidate. We are going to continue to talk to a large target universe that includes voters who have never been engaged in politics before.
That investment in field—an investment that could pay off for other Democratic candidates down the road—will take resources, though, and Ossoff will be facing a Republican opponent who has raised nearly $1 million in the six days since the primary, as well as continuing Republican attacks on the air, fundraising by Donald Trump, and attempts to keep people from voting.
Can you give $3 to help Jon Ossoff invest in his ground game?
