[Excuse me if I did this wrong — my first diary] Above cartoon attributed to Paul Roth, New Yorker —
I just did a search regarding peoples’ intentions to either watch or not watch the January 20, 2017 debacle called Trump’s inauguration as the next president of the United States of America (our country — in the hands of he and his ilk — cue the screaming...), and really didn’t find much, but did find this. Anyway, I think a good way to send a message (particularly as it appears that because the RNC has taken all the prime areas in DC under the guise of possibly needing them for the Trump inauguration. legal protests may be close to impossible, or at least ineffective) is to do the following: (1) don’t attend the inaugural parade in Washington DC; (2) don’t watch any live inaugural coverage on media (plenty of time later if so inclined); (3) go to a movie instead.
My reasoning re 1,2 & 3 above: (1) if there is a huge absence of people who would normally attend (think of comparison between President Obama’s inaugural and Trump’s upcoming) the parade, the smaller crowds will be noted in the news coverage; (2) if you don’t watch any of the live programs regarding the inauguration (sorry MSNBC) the viewership drop may (or may not) be noted; and (3) if there was a spike in movie theater attendance for this day (a Friday, but how about mid-day during parade?), it would be noted and could be attributed to a protest, particularly if you tweeted something regarding why you were tweeting being at the movies. The theater owners will appreciate it (they really don’t make that much in the business, that’s why snacks are so expensive) and we’ll have a protest that can actually be held across the country and can be verified.
Just a thought, folks. Might be a bad one, or maybe not. :) Whatta yah think?
