Hillary Clinton was probably supposed to grovel when the Trump campaign affected outrage at her calling the racists, sexists, homophobes, xenophobes, and Islamophobes in the ranks of Trump supporters “deplorable.” But she’s doing no such thing, even after Trump released an ad in which Clinton’s invocation of “The racist, sexist, homophobic, xenophobic, Islamophobic—you name it” is followed by a narrator saying “People like you, you, and you.”
Instead, Clinton is firing back with an ad on the same subject, which will run on national cable. “You can’t lead this nation if you have such a low opinion for its citizens,” Trump says piously at the outset, followed by text asking “What’s Donald’s opinion of our citizens?” From there, it’s like a greatest hits collection:
“How stupid are the people of the country,” Trump asks, before being shown mocking a disabled reporter and suggesting that obviously a federal judge is out to get him because “We’re building a wall. He’s a Mexican.”
“You’re living in poverty, your schools are no good, you have no jobs. What the hell do you have to lose,” Trump says, before he’s shown attacking Ghazala Khan, before he’s shown saying John McCain is “a war hero because he was captured. I like people that weren’t captured.” Megyn Kelly lists off the insults Trump has lobbed at women—fat pigs, dogs, slobs, disgusting animals—just before a clip of Trump describing a woman as a “disgusting pig.”
And then, almost unbelievably, the ad picks up the pace. “I’d like to punch him in the face.” “Losers.” “Loser.” “Losers.” “Disgusting.” “Stupid.” So when it returns to pious Donald saying “You can’t lead this nation if you have such a low opinion for its citizens,” it’s clear exactly how false that piety is, how outrageous the outrage is. And all it takes is one word on the screen to drive the point home: “Exactly.”
That’s probably not the apology Trump wanted. You can watch the ad below.
Isn't it great to see a Democrat hitting back hard? Can you give $3 to support that?
