Much has been made of the fact that minority voters - Hispanics in particular - were a decisive factor in President Obama's re-election. But could the same case be made for yet another minority group - LGBT voters?
The exit polls, at least, seem to bear that out.
When asked about their sexual orientation, straight people split 49%-49% for Obama and Romney.
However, those who self-identified as gay, lesbian or bisexual - 5% of the population, by the way - voted for Obama by a whopping 76% - 22% margin. In fact, Romney won a narrow victory among straight voters in the key swing states of Ohio and Florida, meaning that the gays helped to put him into the winner's seat in those states, and the nation as a whole.
Ouch, imagine how much that one smarts for the homophobes in the right wing.
